If you think Arkansas has never done it then you have a very short memory. What I really think is going on with Arkansas fans is that they are trying to be as delusional as LSU fans. You claim that you would like the LSU Arkansas game to get more competitive but do not acknowledge that it's 4-3 in the last 7 and you almost lost to this year's terrible team. You like to beat us over the head with your last crystal football but forget that we beat you that year. You like to mention yourselves in the same breath with 'Bama but fail to mention that that's a joke. Your place at number two in the SEC West isn't secure. You have been lucky with two coaches (one that is one of the greatest and one that can do very well keeping a good thing going) while Arkansas dealt with mediocre coaches and then the curse of the almost good enough Nutt that lasted 10 freakin' years. You like to try to compare us to Ole Miss but fail to acknowledge that Nutt could not even repeat his limited success at Arkansas there. You try to pretend that CBB isn't a good hire even though he has a better resume than LM or NS when he was hired into the SEC. You try to discount three straight Rose Bowls by ignoring the first two. Before LSU Miles was 1-2 in bowl games and they were small bowls. Before LSU Saban was 0-3 and they were small bowl games. CBB is 2-4. Not a lot of difference there. So either Saban and Miles were horrible hires and LSU just got lucky or you are all full of crap. I'd put my money on the latter.
They are not relative rankings. They are based on who hired the best coach, not who hired the best coach they could.
You realize that CBB is already working to flip Tenpenny, right? He doesn't seem to have any problem at all in SEC style recruiting. It is obvious that some of you are either too shocked at Arkansas's hire to admit exactly how good it is (how many other coaches got hired that have led teams to multiple BCS bowls?) or just know nothing about football.

Right out of the gate it's:

1. Arkansas (and if you don't agree with that it's a good indication of the weight that should be given to anything you post).
2. Tennessee
3. Auburn
4. Kentucky (Though really about as good as they could do).

Tennessee and Auburn are almost a toss-up. Neither has hired a proven commodity. I'm giving Tennessee the two spot because Jones has more experience. Malzahn possibly has more potential. It will be interesting if he can make it work there.

Arkansas is the real winner here. Not just because they made the best hire, but if Malzahn turns out to be great and CBB is a bust at Arkansas (I doubt that seriously though) we can just go get Gus. He'll come.
That's funny stuff right there. Afraid of competition so he comes to the SECW. You folks will tell yourselves anything.
Good god. The only thing worse than an LSU fan running their mouth is an Arkansas fan running their mouth about crap we haven't done since 1964. You are embarrassing. It's worse than HV here. Better school, check. Better place to live, check. Better smell, check. Better football team, not is a long time. The longer you are happy running your mouth when we are not all that the longer we will be not all that. STFU until we can beat them more than three in ten.
Nobody cares about our track program outside of us and Stanford.
I can certainly see where Arkansas fans get the delusional reputation. It's not a slightly better job. It is a moderately worse job. Sure our stuff is great and NWA is a better place to live (not just my opinion, but rated that way over and over again), but in order to be better we have to beat them on the field on a consistent basis. We have broke even them last six years and did quite a bit worse than that in the recent past before that. It is certainly possible for us to surpass them. We were quite a bit better than them during the '60's, '70's, and '80's. Don't think that with the right coach that can't happen again. Truth is, Frank Broyles built one hell of a program then chased off the next two great coaches we had. The he hired crappy coaches. Then he had HDN forced upon him and kept his mediocre butt around for too long because he could sometimes win. Petrino came in and awoke the sleeping giant. This hire is critical, but there is no reason, given the resources, the history, and the conference position that we cannot pull in a great hire. Then LSU's second spot in the division isn't going to be quite so secure as it is right now. Granted, Arkansas has been crap since we moved into the SEC, but those days are over and should stay in the past. Don't expect to keep your spot without a real fight.

And you'd have to be a complete idiot to think that Miles would leave LSU to go to Arkansas (not because LSU is the be all end all either). Jeff Long is not an idiot. There are plenty of idiots in the national media.

There are hog fans that are freaking out because we don't have a coach yet. They are idiots and/or part of the "poor ol' Arky" crowd. Personally, I'd be pissed if we already hired a coach who wasn't an out of work NFL guy. There are college guys that are not coaching this weekend that would be decent hires, but none are on top of my list. I'm not nervous at all.
Our AD wanted to get an old friend a raise and for people to stop talking about Patterson/Peterse/Gundy.
Bo's an idiot.

I can see you have zero knowledge of Arkansas football history if you think that it can't be a top program. Sabin rebuilt your program and Jimmy isn't around to rob the state of talent anymore. You sucked because your talent left, not because there wasn't enough of it around. There's a difference. There was no let down with Miles. There would have been no let down with Nutt there either, but I bet you wouldn't call him a good coach. Miles = Nutt. Sorry to be the one to explain that to you. It is your program that sustains you, not your coach.
It is really funny to see how hard of a time you are having with none of the Arkansas fans wanting your coach though.

Why is that? Bc Arkansas just simply isn't as good as lsu and never will be regardless of who your coach is? Yeah, I can see where you'd feel the way you do.

No, because Les Miles isn't that good of a coach. He does well at LSU because he gets recruits dumped in his lap. Nutt would have performed similarly to Miles if he were at LSU. You actually have to recruit to Arkansas or be able to coach up the talent. Les Miles doesn't do either.
I didn't see one hog fan that wanted him. Didn't talk to one hog fan that wanted him. I did see a lot of "I'll burn my hog gear if that neanderthal is our coach." Saw a lot of that. Seriously.

My honest reaction was:

1) There's no way this is real.
2) There's no way I want him coaching the hogs.
3) Well, if it is true, it would at least be funny to see the LSU fans reactions. It might be worth having to fire him in 4 years and do another search.
The delusional part is to think that Jeff Long offered Les Miles the job. I love Arkansas, but no one in their right mind would make that move. You don't go from number two where you don't have to recruit to number three where you have to recruit you butt off to compete with one and two. Just don't do it. Long knows this. He's not stupid. There will be no coach announced until next week. Now, no one is talking about Patterson, Petersen, or Gundy. Mission accomplished. It's really that simple. He got an old friend a raise to boot. You folks are as delusional as anyone I have seen on the internets.
quote:

too bad, arky. Les would've won you an SEC title within 5 years. next time keep your fat redneck fingers away from my coach

This would not have happened here. I know some of you love Les Miles, but the truth is that LSU recruits for Miles, not the other way around. He would not have been successful at Arkansas. I'd go as far to say that Nutt would have had similar success to what Miles has done at LSU and Miles would have done similar to what Nutt did at Arkansas. He's not great at x's and o's and he can't manage the clock to save his life. I think you could do better with a better coach, but I wouldn't risk it either. Flame away, but they are very similar.
We've split the last six games. I wouldn't feel too big and mighty if I were you.
Patterson would be great. I still hope (not think) it's Petersen. Never believed that the LM talk was serious, but it was a well played smokescreen that gives an old friend a raise and costs a rival more money. Well played Jeff Long. Well played. People (mostly up here) don't give this guy enough credit.
Mad at JL for costing LSU and extra million or so a year that they can't spend elsewhere by trolling you with a supposed offer no one in their right mind believes was legitimate.
You guys are funny. This was all about costing LSU money. No one thinks that Miles would go to Arkansas, least of all JL. We can thank you for paying for the smokescreen later.
