absolutely love to cook and eat. I decline to call myself a "foodie". Most foodies are obnoxious brand whores and followers that either think Michelin stars or Guy Fieri are the only arbiter of good food

Guy Fieri built his brand on people like you, though. He's the anti-Michelin star guy. He loves to highlight good cooks who make interesting, fun food for the masses.

I used to think he was a massive tool. Then I started actually listening to him, and he's a pretty damn good guy.

She’s in a pretty funny under-the-radar comedy flick called Good Ol’ Fashioned Orgy with Jason Sudekis, Leslie Bibb, Nick Kroll, and Tyler Labine that’s a great weekend afternoon watch. You should check it out, I’m sure it’s streaming somewhere

It's what I know her most from. It's a kind of weird movie, but it's pretty fun.

In a World is also a great watch.
She's an entertaining actress, and actually has a great deal of talent. Pretty sure she wrote In a World.

The Roger Moore films are so bad in retrospect, but the one with Walken and Grace Jones always stood out.

That's the perfect combo of awful movie, but excellent song. Duran Duran had a top 10 hit, but yes, the movie is pure trash.

I like the Moore movies, but yeesh, they're not good. Just enjoy them for what they are.

My biggest gripe with the Craig films is that they ruin my favorite fan theory: Bond isn't a man, he's a designation. It's a title to be promoted towards. James Bond shouldn't have a childhood or a backstory. James Bond is a rank you achieve within MI-6.

Every time they try, the players push back.

They do. It's impressive. The NHL tried to have teams wear rainbow stuff for "pride nights," and the players pushed back so hard that the league blinked.

The NHL itself doesn't pay enough attention to its fans, and their overall desires. They also placate the Torontos and Vancouvers of the world, at the detriment of other markets.

The players quickly refused to wear rainbow pride stuff. The NHL backed down.
I grew up in Atlanta, and have been to Philips Arena more times than I can count. Former Falcons STH.

I have never heard of Magic City before now. I literally didn't know it existed. Clearly, this isn't for me and my people.

The NBA is cancer.

Hyman left, abruptly, for A&M. Tanner was the AD in waiting after having threatened to leave for Texas a couple of years earlier. Tanner got the AD job while he was still in Omaha.

Should have let him go to Texas.

The baseball natties were nice, but this depth of hell isn't worth the cost.
Tanner is gone, but he's left behind such a mess that it's going to require a herculean effort just to be mediocre again, let alone competitive.

It's truly difficult to explain *how bad* all four men's sports are now.

If you play your cards right, you can get a presidential pardon, a free trip to Israel, and become personal friends with a US ambassador, Mr Pollard.

Role Models

Easily my favorite comedy of the Aughts.

Watched SS last year on a family trip at my suggestion. Some incredibly hilarious scenes but lots of incredibly boring divorce/relationship stuff.

Once upon a time, I worked in the front office of minor league hockey teams.

Slapshot is a documentary. It's insane how accurate it is. The relationship/divorce part of it is especially pertinent. Even Goon, the spiritual successor to Slapshot, riffed on this.

I had a dermatologist like this. She was so stunning I had to tell my wife I couldn't go there anymore.

Took you 46 years to win another gold, look at all our medals weeeee!

Before 2002 Salt Lake, the Canadians had a longer gold medal drought. They couldn't get over the hump.

Granted, they rattled off several in a row, but that was a great national shame.
Nothing against the Secretary of Defense. He's awesome.

But I can't pull for Winnipeg. Won't do it.
Photos like Bucky's save against Toews are one of the reasons I think hockey is the most beautiful game on earth.

That photo, with a Bucky signature on it, needs to be hanging from my office wall, right next to my Eruzione autographed Puck.

Follow the Minnesota Wild.

Their GM, Bill Guerin, was also the GM for the US Team. Good call.

I used to hate the Wild when they first got started under Jacques Lemaire, and they played the ugliest brand of hockey. But they've really grown on me in the last few years.

thought about this and wonder if others feel the same, but is there such a thing as too fast in hockey?

See my post above. Yes, you can be "too fast." Think of it like football - outkicking your coverage.
The Hughes' brothers father is an Irish Catholic. Their mother is Jewish. I don't know what they practice.

There was a question posed about overskating. Yes, in hockey you can over pursue and get caught in a poor situation. Watching the breakdown of the golden goal, that's exactly what happened to Makar. He overpursued against J Hughes, and then failed to backcheck properly. If you get caught like that, you have a responsibility to backcheck, hard, at a sprint to re-take your man. Makar didn't do that. In fact, he was guilty of gliding/loafing in the neutral zone. His man, J Hughes, scored the winning goal.

Makar is ultimately responsible, as the lone defenseman on the ice for Canada, to get back in position. Yes, MacKinnon got absolutely bullied off the Puck by Werenski. But McDavid was back to take his man. Makar was nowhere to be seen.

As Herb Brooks was famous for saying, hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard. Makar didn't work hard. Hughes did. One is wearing Gold, and the other is receiving copious criticism.

Canada people saying they were the better team are forgetting the US went post to post on a shot right before the 2nd intermission

When that happened live, I was convinced it hit the back of the net and came back out. Had to see a replay to realize it was dual posts.
Espn+ makes this easier than ever. Watch a team out-of-market, and pick up who you gravitate towards.

I followed Arizona for a few years as a result.

Seattle is interesting, and fun to watch. They're new, so that makes it easier. They have excellent sweaters and colors. This is who I've picked up since Arizona relocated.

Vegas is an excellent organization, and Jack Eichel is on their squad. Their fan experience is the weirdest, quirkiest in the league, but it works for them in spades.

Utah Mammoth have a lot of young talent, and are an easy bandwagon to jump on.

Nashville isn't nearly as good as they should be, considering their roster, but they have a distinct identity and a great sweater.

The Panthers have been an excellent organization since their rebrand under new ownership.

The Hurricanes play a style that is very easy to enjoy.

You literally cannot go wrong. Just avoid a Canadian franchise. That's asking for perpetual heartbreak, combined with an unearned sense of arrogance.
