re: I finally accept Zion just isn't that good
Posted by ned nederlander on 1/16/26 at 9:37 am to htran90
Lebron James is 41 years old.
Zion is 25 and healthy.
I went to the pelicans/lakers game and Lebron is a much better player and athlete, at 41, than Zion.
If Zion commits himself to the game and profession fully, he may one day be as good as 41 year old LeBron.
Zion is a 6th man on a winning nba team and a starter on a bad nba team.

Dick Cheney gave one of the better defenses of the patriot act, enhanced interrogation, indefinite detentions, etc. I heard after 9/11.
To paraphrase he said these methods are preventing another major attack and if there is another major attack every complaining about these methods will voluntarily give up much more of their civil liberties for security.
The justification looks even more outrageous when you realize people just need to be convinced they are under attack to give up their liberties for security.

It’s wild to think of Brees with 3 and Brady with 2 less in retrospect. So many narratives would be changed, especially had Brees beaten him twice head to head and manning once.
If Brees wins in 2011, at the peak of his power, he’s the consensus 2nd best qb of his era behind Brady and I think widely seen as a top 5 qb to ever play.

The best hope for avoiding this is that the various factions in the country (monarchists, anti-monarchists, radicals, non-Persian minorities) come together as one to force the creation of a democratic government. Quite a few smart people are not confident in that last scenario materializing.
I think our time in Afghanistan needed to come to an end when it did.
But Taliban controlled Afghanistan sharing a border with Iran seems like a real thorn in the side of hope that a more western and liberal republic will emerge in Iran.

It’s really shown the incompetence of our leadership for decades. Either incompetence or unwillingness to actually fix anything since WW2.
It might also just be really hard to break apart a despotic regime and not have the country experience a period of intense turmoil/civil war.
Iraq
Afghanistan
Libya
Syria
Myanmar
Cambodia
Are recent examples where it’s been a bit rocky to say the least.
South American countries for whatever reason seem to rebound from dictatorship better than Asian countries.

Gad if we didn’t totally whiff 2018/19/20 our roster would have been all time great.

Just spoken to relatives of Erfan Soltani, the 26yr old protestor, due to be executed today in Iran. They told us the execution has been postponed.
Not to sound callous, but is there more significance to this guy than just Iranian protestor? Is he just the ridiculously handsome face of the resistance.
I’m not sure why he is standing out among what I assume a mass civilian casualties.

Let’s be honest, they’ve been under martial law since 1979.

You obviously haven’t watched a single video that’s came out of Iran in the last 2 weeks. They all want him back
The most popular guy on the team is the backup QB. Hatred of the leader can produce love for any other option.
The fall of Iran’s government will be one hell of a dragon to try and ride. Absent major US involvement I’d be hard pressed to see a friendly, stable and liberal government emerging. Their neighborhood is rough.

Just make tickets $1.00 for anyone that shows up to the counter.
Who cares at this point.

Not that college stats mean a ton, but I went back and looked at etienne. He put up some monster numbers at Clemson.

Yea I just don’t see Tyson or Tate or Lemon being demonstrably better than these Indiana WR, the tall kid from Tennessee, etc.
Saints have to draft a WR in my opinion but hope they get one in the second round vs 8 overall.
I just don’t see gap in this year WR group.

Mendoza will likely go in the top 5 (if not 1)
To quote Edwin Edwards, only way Mendoza doesn’t go 1 is if he is caught in bed with a dead girl or a live boy.
Guy is as sure fire a number 1 lock as you’ll see.
He’s a raider and I think will be great.
2026 Raiders:
Mendoza
Jeanty
Bowers
John Harbaugh

Feeling solid about this at the moment.
Mendoza is good. Raiders about to get a franchise fortune maker.

Really like Sarratt but think 40 might be early. Edit: maybe not
Guy reminds me of Lance Moore. Everytime I watch Indiana he is making a really tough catch with his hands.
Will be curious to see how big he actually is at the combine, but I would lose no sleep adding him at 40.
Guy will be a quality WR in the league.
