They will be fine, zinnias grow very well in La. I do a full bed at my house every year to cut for my daughter and wife.
Pinch that second set of leaves to encourage branching and keep the dead heads cleared. That will keep them blooming.
Around mid July I plant a whole 100 cell flat again and replant when they are a few inches tall in August. With that late summer heat they get real leggy but the new plants will look great starting September through fall.

The alternative view of seeing them useful, professional and helpful by the general public will go a long way to fight the old narrative.

This is crap, as a disabled individual (I check a box on my taxes) I could not get anything from lsu.
