Paloma Blanca (on Broadway near-ish the McNay)
Esquire Tavern downtown
El Mercado and Mi Tierra's is a must!
Rosario's and/or La Tuna in Southtown.
I second La Gloria and also recommend Il Sogno and the Sandbar at Pearl
The Blue Star Cafe/Halcyon is nice spot also south of downtown along the river.
Many craft breweries also (Alamo, Blue Star, Free tail)
There is apparently a really great place (The Luxury) that is housed in a shipping container across the river from SAMA but I have not personally tried it.
As others said, the Alamo isn't much and neither are the Missions really, but the Mission Reach is a lot of fun to run or bike.

Probably my favorite:
Station to Station
But almost all of his catalog is great.

Just to point out, Baylor ranks the same as UVA (101-150 worldwide), who certainly would meet Big 10 standards. Kansas is an AAU member, which matters a lot.
That is Baylor College of Medicine (in Houston), which is an independent institution and not really at all related to Baylor anymore.
Baylor University, while strong in some areas, is not listed in those rankings.

Is there a reason they don't have a full band?
That is likely the full band - it's just not that big. They also are routinely on school-enforced probation for some of their more... uh... peculiar behavior.
Also: Christian McCaffrey

They have shite academics but so does Oklahoma, OKST, Iowa State.
While not the best, ISU is certainly not shite. Definitely in the top 1/2 of the Big 12. Perhaps even #2 behind UT.
Also I agree that expansion west is moot since they took WVU.

the highest ranked SEC school is A&M (159)
These types of rankings also usually favor schools with strong graduate programs, although that does not explain why Vanderbilt is relatively low, as they are well regarded in many fields.
Usually A&M does better when research spending is taken into account, but perhaps they left that out because of disparities in accounting among different countries.

It was used in the Galveston and Dallas papers as far back as the 30's. It seems to stem from the class divide of the two student bodies.
The synthesis of the term with UT students and alumni not going to war is probably a little bit of storytelling.
And frick Baylor.

Rice should join the Big 12 for baseball (as Iowa State no longer fields a team).

Ann Richards gave no fricks about the end of the SWC.
Baylor and Texas Tech are in the Big 12 due to the patronage of one Bob Bullock, then Lt. Gov and one of the meanest SOBs ever to serve in the Lege.
ETA: I agree that UTEP makes sense and UNM would not be receptive. I also agree that UTSA makes more sense than Rice. But I want good things for all 4 schools so hopefully that happens.
