re: Anybody seen the deal lsu emailed out for baseball/basketball this weekend?

What a slap in the face to season ticket holders. If they are going to let people in for free, let's just open it up like it is beach volleyball or tennis and not charge for tickets. Give season ticket holders a refund.

Still haven’t made it to 4 wins and March starts McTomorrow

Retaining McDeathPenalty would be an expensive mistake. Scary to think that OLOL is run by an incompetent CEO.

Can’t even pick up a win against one of the worst coaches in SEC history

Exactly. And for equal or lesser talent. In other words, it will take more money to get equal/worse talent to convince the kids to sacrifice their college career playing under this coach.

Bump since some people apparently still think we have to write one $10 million check.

You mean, now before the season ends or after we lose in the SEC tournament?
Surely you aren’t contemplating if we wait another year… that would be a horribly expensive mistake

We were at Torchy's across the street from the PMAC before the South Carolina game on Saturday and they did not have the men's basketball game on.

Paid out over 39 months is roughly $200,000 per month IF he doesn't get another job. His new job will reduce this significantly.

Moscona and others in the media are throwing around this big number. It sounds like a massive, one-time check that LSU would have to cut at the beginning of March.
First off, it is not a lump sum payment. The contracts specifically say LSU pays this out in equal monthly installments over the rest of the years left on the deal. For McMahon, LSU is basically just paying a monthly bill for the next few years, not taking an 8 million dollar hit to the bank account all at once.
Even more important is the offset rule. The coaches have a legal duty to find new jobs. The second McMahon or any of the assistants get hired somewhere else, LSU gets to subtract that new salary from what they owe. If McMahon goes and gets a mid-major job for 500k a year, that is 500k LSU instantly wipes off the books.
Two of the assistants have a contract that ends this year.
That 10 million figure is the absolute max ceiling if every single one of those coaches stayed unemployed until 2029, which basically never happens in college sports. It is still expensive, but it is a manageable monthly expense that gets cheaper every time one of them gets a new gig. It is not the massive haul that some are making it out to be.

What about revenue sharing? Are you suggesting that we cut that off too?

All about the TV contract. The same reason baseball doesn't make as much money as men's basketball.

This is an ignorant take. We are missing out on millions in new potential revenue with a competent coach. In fact, if we keep him, we will bring in even less revenue than what we are now.

And the NIL resources had to be increased to compensate for his coaching incompetence. In other words, it takes far more money to get a guy here and sacrifice his development.

No, he is far worse. She made the tournament a couple of times. He will go down as one of the worst basketball coaches in the history of the SEC.
