I fish out of grand Isle Louisiana I have a one and a three-year-old that I take fishing with me. I’ve been a guide for over 20 years enjoy showing kids the outdoors would love to show y’all a good time on the water with no long boat rides.

Offshore fishing in October is really good the tuna are close you can also target several other species. Grouper, amberjack. Mangrove snapper, cobia. Its not a long run like it is during the summer if for some reason the week prior the weather looks bad I can always set you guys up on some of our inshore boats to make sure you go fishing.

I graded the yard now one area of the house is to low. I talked to a company out of New Orleans they blow sand and grade it may spend the money now I’ve been pumping it out with an automatic bildge it goes off after it rains all gutters are good to go

I have an elevated house about 2 feet off the ground I get water under there all the time trying to figure out if there’s a company in the Baton Rouge area that pumps sand under the house or if there’s anywhere I can rent a pump

I would be happy to show you the inside of the bilges I have two bildge pumps on each side. The boat is foam filled so it cannot sink I did a commercial one day with the plugs out on a different twin vee catamaran to prove that fact for Twin Vee. I rewire the entire boat every two years just to make sure that we don't have problems when we're fishing every day not because it needs it because I am very strict about preventative maintenance . It is not a 31 foot twin vee nor has it ever been that is a completely different style boat. I did take on some water in the marina one day which was easily pumped out, one of the bolts that was not installed by me but by a certified Yamaha shop that holds the engine on snapped and water steadily came into the boat through the night and the bildges were having trouble keeping up with it I pulled it out the water fixed the situation and was able to fish two days later after I sea triled it and made sure everything was okay And had no problems the rest of the summer. We are actually rewiring the entire boat and I change my racours out every year and the fuel filters every 100 hours along with an oil change for both the engine and lower unit oil. So please from now on find out the facts before you bash somebody on the Internet. If you don't want to go with me because I don't buy a brand new boat every year I totally understand but I've had thousands of customers that Have been happy and plenty of clients that Have fished with me for over 20 years now and enjoy their trip every time.

Once again I'm sorry to hear that if I canceled every trip when an engine was making a funny noise we probably wouldn't ever fish. Again I put new engines on it every three years if you have a suggestion for something better that I can do please let me know I have a certified Yamaha mechanic that works for me and helps maintain the engines .As far as the boat being beat up I cant afford a new boat every year. I spent thousands of dollars before last summer taking all the wood out of the boat and put acusta board so it would be lighter faster added some extra fuel tanks and extra storage in the floors . I repainted the entire boat put new curtains new t-top and new canvas on it. We also put another new set of yamaha outboard's. There's not one captain in the golf that has never not had one break down while offshore. If you knew me personally you would know that I spend more time maintaining my engines and Boat then anyone else that I know . Feel free to ask the owner of the marina at Bridgeside once again I'm sorry you had a bad experience and I would be happy to do anything to make sure that I made it up to you

This is Lance Walker with fish commander charters I runs around 150 trips a year. In the last 10 years his boat has broke down 2 times offshore. Both times it was a lower unit. The boat has a spare lower unit at the camp so that it can be changed out that night and make sure the clients don't miss out on there trip the next day. The boat gets new engines every 3 years. It gets maintained every 100 hours. I apologize that you missed out on part of your trip if that was the case. It cost thousands of dollars a year maintaining a boat and most guides do everything thing they can to make sure the boat is ready because they don't make money sitting at the dock. I spend countless hours working on the boat sometimes not finishing until minutes before the trip. My boat was on the Yamaha commercial for having the best maintained engines in the gulf. Again I work extremely hard both on and off the boat to make sure everyone has a trip of a lifetime if that was not the case again I apologize feel free to contact me I would be happy to make it up to you.

To answer your question about how much is a good tip
I'll break it down what a deck hand or captain expects.
10% of the trip total is expected if they did there job
15% if you thought he did an incredible job
20% if it was one of your best trips ever and the whole crew did more than you expected.
Very similar to what you would tip at a restaurant
The sad thing about a bad catch that most people don't feel the need to tip is that the deck hand works twice as hard and the captain when the fishing is slow. But when your fighting fish we can sit back and relax. Trust me I would rather be fighting fish. I use to charge for fish cleaning and over half of the people complained that they had to pay more for catching a lot of fish then those were the same people wanting to pay less when the catch was average. So my question for the guys that want to pay less are you going to pay more if you do catch or should everyone make their rates so high that no one can afford to fish so that if you don't catch everything you want you don't pay. Because if you want to pay more when you catch call me up I load the boat when I go out.

Why would you rather advertise . I brought you where we didn't see a fish. If you know the fish are there they just didn't bite one day, that doesn't mean they won't be hungry and bitting the next. A fishing charter is the opportunity to catch fish. They obviously had the opportunity if the fish were all around them. I'd much rather hear about seeing hundreds of fish rolling than nothing at all. I'm just trying to get people to understand that 90% of the charter captains do everything in there power to catch fish and they want to catch fish. They wouldn't be in business if they didn't. Also do your research. Call the marina ask the charter service about one of the other guides you may not always get an honest answer but if you asked me about another captain I would be honest. I'm not going to bash anyone over the internet. But know what to expect. I have guys that tell me they want to catch 20 different species. That's impossible even if I ran 100 mph and fished with 12 poles. I've caught my clients tons of fish but didn't catch one species and they bashed me on the internet . I just thank the guys that bash most of these charter boats have no idea the work load and pressure we are under every day. Just remember next time your are fortunate enough to go on a charter that it's the opportunity to catch fish and if you can't appreciate a day on the water away from work then don't go. Life is too short to worry about what you didn't catch, appreciate the fact you were able to go in the first place because a lot of people aren't that fortunate.

If a guide spends his day doing everything he can spending his money paying his boat note, paying his insurance and paying for all the maintenance then yes pay him. He did his job and it is called fishing. If you don't expect to pay if you don't catch then don't go. Because after 16 years of guiding not one person ever paid me twice as much if they caught twice as many fish. We work hard day in and day out to make sure everyone has a trip to remember. We can't control if the fish are biting that day. I know it sucks because I'm twice as upset as any customer will ever be if I fill like we had a bad day.but I still did my job as good as any other charter boat would have and I'd like to thank better. We don't do this to get rich, we enjoy the company and sharing the outdoors with others. We spend hours and days preparing for the trips. Talking to other captains making a game plan for the next day. So yes it sucks you didn't catch any fish but if this captain is well known for catching fish don't bash him because the fish weren't biting when he put you in the middle of the school and for the guy that said he shouldn't have paid I would like to know WHY if he did his job by bringing you to the fish and worked all day why shouldn't he get paid. If you thank our job is so easy come try it you can start working Friday.

Headed out of Grand Isle Saturday on the 60 hatteras. Seas were nice. We ended up with 6 yellowfin tuna. Caught some blackfin tuna, amberjack, grouper, and a bunch of porgies. There was a lot if scattered grass offshore. Blue water was about 50 miles.

Get the shimano I am a charter boat captain out of grand isle. I brought an Okuma rep out and Broke 3 reels out the box on the first trip. I was given 3 more of there most expensive spinning reels and they were all broke In less than 2 months. Okuma didn't warranty any of them. I have the same shimano reels for ten years and they still work.

There is no better bag than a wiggy. I spend 3 weeks in Alaska every year and without the wiggy it would be tough. I've seen every type of sleeping bag but when everyone was freezing with there thermals on I was almost hot with just boxers. They still insulate you even if there wet. You can wash them when you get home.don't by Down if it gets wet your done. They also make a cot that folds up the size of a water bottle and it's extremely light. They sale them online at cabelas around $200 and there worth every penny. I also used the thermarest light wait and it worked great Best sleeping bag ever. My brother had a north face on the trip after freezing all week I let him borrow mine for a night and when he got home he ordered a wiggy and said its 100 times better than the north face. The mummy bag is what I have I think it's the long one . Think about what side you would rather have the zipper on they make both . Also look at otter socks there similar to hip boots but a lot lighter.another piece of advice is pack all your stuff in small water proof bags ( little dry bags) then put those in your big bags.

I run charters out of Grand isle it's blowing 40 kts right now but it should calm down by Friday and be good for the weekend. Paradise outfitters runs an incredible charter service. Captain Hunter and Captain Scott are two of the best guys to fish with in the Gulf. Good luck this weekend we are taking out the new 60 foot Hatteras Saturday for its first charter.

If you want to go on a sport fisher, fish commander guide service just got 2 60 footers. They are luxury boats with 3 bedrooms 3 bathrooms a living room and kitchen. I know they will put you on the fish. You can take up to 6 per boat.

Cko out of Kansas is really good also check out Still water outfitters in Colorado the hunting was incredible we had the Rocky Mountains in the back ground. I do a hunt with Chad Belding from the fowl life every year and he puts on some incredible hunts. Tell him Lance sent you I promise you will have an incredible time at either place.

I hunt all over the U.S. and the best way to get your game home with you is to bring it on the plane. I try to freeze my wild game and then put it in a styrofoam ice chest that fits in a card board box so you can tape it up. Just check it on the plane like its one of your bags. That is by far the cheapest and easiest way to get your game home in the shortest amount of time. I brought three 50lb boxes of moose home last year from Alaska that was already frozen and put no dry ice in it . It cost me $75 for all of it. I didn't use dry ice and it was still frozen when I landed. Hope this helps I can guarantee this is the easiest way unless for some reason the airport loses you ice chest. Just remember the heavier the ice chest the more its going to cost.

I should be on at least half of the episodes. We will be hunting from Alaska all the way to Texas for big game mainly. We may add one offshore episode not sure yet. But we had a blast filming it. Hope everyone enjoys it.

There is advantages to both boats. The fiberglass boats will ride better every time. Fiberglass is more forgiving and can flex some, aluminum does not. As far as repairing a boat, in my 15 plus years of going offshore around a 150 days a year. Fiberglass is a lot easier to repair. Anyone can fix fiberglass not as many people can weld aluminum. Fiberglass last just as long as aluminum if the fiberglass was laid right. I know several people who have spent thousands of dollars repairing aluminum boats because the metal had either started to erode or they had cracks in there boat. If you drop a weight on the bottom of a fiber glass boat it may chip it where aluminum might just dent it. Both boats should last your lifetime but if I was buying a boat I would get a catamaran, something that is foam filled. I know someone that ran over the rocks at south pass in a twin vee took out a 6 foot by 2 foot by 2 foot section of there boat then idled back on the other engine. If you would have been in an aluminum boat it would have sunk. I would decide what boat fits you best for what you plan on doing with it. Go test drive one or two boats and then decide what's best for you.
