Forget about the "insiders," but if you think about it, this all sounds really logical:
1. He's looking to win. If it's between OM, Florida, and LSU, it's LSU by a mile. Total instate talent and a fantastic NIL deal. I'm sure he loves the thought of that.
2. LSU with a great offense scares the shite out of the rest of college football. They know what can happen. Lane is going to get that on a consistent basis. On GameDay, it's obvious why they don't want Lane to come here. We'd be contenders every year.
3. Saban has got to be involved in some way. I have no sources, but his comments on GameDay tell me he told Lane that it'd be a good career move to go to LSU. Plus, Saban might love the idea of being the guy who gave coach rehab to the coach who would reinvigorate the program. Saban built a legacy here and getting Lane here would be the icing on the cake.
4. It's also getting the band back together if Orgeron and Coach Frank are on staff.
5. It's such a fit. LSU is loud, boisterous, and our fans talk trash win or lose. What better than to have the troll in chief as your HC?

This isn't adding up. Why would he do that when he already said there's no reason to think he wouldn't be coaching the Egg Bowl?

Correct, kind of. People ask for declaratory judgments to ask for a court to outline the rights and remedies of a contract. To get these, you need to have a justiciable controversy. The controversy is whether BK is subject to the liquidated damages clause. I think this is one of the rare instances where a dec action is appropriate.

Just objectively incorrect. See paragraph 42 of the complaint. It's a dispute about whether a liquidated damages was triggered because of BK's termination without cause. Here to add that if you're doing Amex Platinum, make sure to get the Charles Schwab version - You can convert your points into cash back at a rate of 1.1 cents per point (10% boost) and you get all of same benefits/credits as the regular Platinum card.
