re: Arkansas football recruiting: Portal madness entering final stretch before dead period

I think you need to get a better understanding of CDS.
Strictly using raw recruiting data is omitting much of the nuances necessary to get a complete picture.

Bobby was never going to get the job. He lacks the necessary qualities for programs in today’s game.
What’s the old saying? Nostalgia is only useful when you’re selling something. This perfectly incapsulates Bobby and his supporters. Attempting to sell support based on performances from a bygone era.

All of this is moot as Bobby is not getting the job. He lacks support from the boosters and also most casuals. I’m not entirely sure he would have much support from current players.
It’s fine to be abrasive and a micro-manger because you lack the communication skills to delegate if you’re a winner. However Bobby hasn’t been a winner for some time. He is everything you don’t want in a modern college coach.

Hiring Bobby would be the final nail for this program. It’s lazy and uninspiring.
Interesting tidbit. A vandy win today would tie the hogs in SEC wins since the conference expanded in 2012.

re: What type of start to the season would it take to bring back hope to the fan base?
Posted by Razorbacking on 8/23/24 at 9:41 pm to Hawgnsincebirth55
To bring back any semblance of hope they need to win 6+ games for the next several years. Starting 2-0 means nothing with our recent history.
I think it would shock this fan base if they knew we are only ahead of Vandy in conference wins since Bobby took his tumble. And the gap is tight.
We have also lost more games to non-P5 teams than any P5 program outside of Kansas in the same time frame.

That NHL figure is average goals scored per team.
The total goals scored per game is 6+

Of that group only Sanders, Cam, Jackson, Limmer, and Hasz are bonafide nfl prospects. And Hasz and Sanders hardly played.

247 had our team talent rank at 32 which is pathetic relative to the resources given to the program.

What gives you that impression?
This board is starting to give to much credence to what the results would have been had this or that happened.
It’s simple, last years team was full of guys with little to none NFL potential. The offensive line was flat out terrible. Aside from Armstrong the WR group was mediocre at best. Rocket dealing with injuries all season left the RB room with nothing. A QB that was disinterested.

Absurd. That was one of the lesser talented teams in P5.

7-5 with wins against Texas and LSU is about the pinnacle of this program. Especially with this schedule which is looking like a repeat of 2014 in terms of strength.

On paper this team is terrible.
They could have an okay season if a couple breaks go their way. However, that is not indicative of a good team.

That figure is revenue. The athletic departments earnings were less than 1MM.

The metrics I listed are from the NBA combine. Posted on the NBAs official website.

What are you talking about?
Westbrook is 6’2 with a 30 inch vertical and had 12 reps at 185 pounds
Revis is 5’11 with a 38 inch vertical and had 16 reps at 225
These are massive differences in athletic profiles.

NBA players aren’t not even remotely close to the best athletes in the world.
Most people think basketball players are big leapers when in reality the average standing vert in basketball is below 30 inches. That’s below every NFL position group outside of OL.
This doesn’t even bring up the straight line speed and strength metrics that most NBA players completely lack.
The NBA is a body type league with skills that are taught. It is not an “athletic” league.

We are talking about states that produce the most football talent. Kansas having two FBS programs is entirely irrelevant.
21 NFL players were born in Iowa. Arkansas only has 8. Not comparable

Iowa is not comparable. They are top 15 in NFL players per capita.
Kansas and South Dakota both have more players per capita.
Only 12 states have fewer players per capita than Arkansas. Most of those being states that don’t prioritize athletics at all.

The NFL is substantially more popular than college football and they have determined 32 teams is the right amount to prevent any saturation.
The teams with real leverage will not split revenue with UofA nor do the networks care to carry UofA games.
It take us five games to get 5MM viewers. Bama does that in one.

These TV contracts are for the rights to show the tier 1 teams not UofA or Miss State.
The tier 1 schools and tv networks have an incentive to consolidate. And they will.

If schools like Texas Ohio St Alabama USC are behind a split, they will not be taking 40 schools with them. There is very clearly a tier 1 in regards to brand value and UofA is not in that group.
Frankly it doesn’t matter what happens on the field. Arkansas will be left out in the new landscape because it’s Alumni base and state population are too poor.

We are somewhere around 26 in terms of gross revenue for the entire athletic department.
They will not be taking 50 if a split occurs.

I won’t be expecting much this season if Green ends up being the starter. An average QB from an average conference making a huge jump in competition is not something to get excited about.
We’ve seen a huge shift in college football over the past decade in regards to QB play. The run first QBs of early 2000s has been negated with new defensive schemes. The good teams have QBs that can throw it all over the field. The zone reads have turned into RPOs. Greens inability to throw will handicap this team much like KJ and Hornsby etc.

KJ will probably measure in at 6025 at the combine which would have him around the 5th or 6th shortest TE in the NFL.
re: Transfer Portal Officially Open - Let the Madness Begin
Posted by Razorbacking on 11/30/23 at 12:17 pm to Columbia
KJ is already lighter than the average college TE. If he needed to lose weight to increase his weak athleticism he would be even smaller.
Bottom line is KJ is too short and not twitchy enough to play TE. Nothing he does can change his genetics.

An undersized and unathletic (relative to NFL TEs) player who is switching positions isn’t getting a look at the next level.

KJs chance of playing TE in the NFL is 0%.
He might not score in the top quartile in any combine metric.
