Despite being retired since 2010, Hall of Fame slugger Ken Griffey Jr. remains one of the highest-paid players on the Cincinnati Reds. Griffey signed a nine-year, $112.5 million contract with the Reds shortly after he was traded from the Mariners and ultimately deferred half the money so he could collect payments from 2009 through 2024... And the Mets are still paying Bobby Bonilla. "In 2000, the Mets agreed to buy out the remaining $5.9 million on Bonilla's contract. However, instead of paying Bonilla the $5.9 million at the time, the Mets agreed to make annual payments of nearly $1.2 million for 25 years starting July 1, 2011, including a negotiated 8% interest." I seriously doubt he unilaterally said “pay me the money you owe me, but rather than paying me now, spread it over the next 15 years”
