The New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies, 4-1, at Citi Field on Wednesday night. Kody Clemens singled to start the fifth inning, but was quickly doubled up when Edmundo Sosa lined out to Francisco Lindor. After catching the line drive, Lindor tossed the ball to first base while Clemens somberly rounded second and headed for the dugout. NBC Sports Philadelphia announcers Tom McCarthy and Ben Davis had a problem with how Lindor threw the ball to first... (The Big Lead)

oh good lord. The SS was just trying to make sure he didn't overthrow the 1B, so he dribbled it over there. It's not "unprofessional." The announcers (and baseball players in general) are such crybabies about all these "unwritten rules."

Well, the runner did give up, so it didn't really matter anyway, even if the ball has taken a bad bonce.

Who gives a shite! The runner knew he was toast because he was running on the play.

Announcers could mention for the audience that runner was stealing on a hit and run. Had no chance to get back.

Why don't they worry about their runner that gave up on the play?

Baseball snobbery.

Runner was abandoning the base path. Runner would have been called out even if Lindor had simply held it.

That's actually a smart play. Negates the chances of throwing the ball away or into the stands. I have ZERO problem with what Lindor did

I don't follow baseball enough to know rule changes, but did he not have to actually turn the double? Like why was the runner not safe on second?

silly goose. The line drive was caught in the air, the guy rounding second base needed to go back to first base

I'm an idiot. I thought it bounced. I watched no less than 10 times and never noticed.
