I wasn’t a fan of the Mavericks spinoffs, but I would love one about Admiral Scorandum and the ECO. He might be my favorite character.
Another massive cliffhanger leading into this one.

the beetles in general crack me up. I love when they visit earth and have to search all the casinos to make sure nobody gets left behind.

Absolutely one of my favorites as well. This one and butchers masquerade are tied in my opinion because it’s in these two books that the story really takes off and starts reaching quickly outside of the main dungeon storyline.

If you’re into audiobooks then get the ‘Audio Dramas’ instead of the regular audiobooks. Both sets are fantastic but the dramas have sound effects and unique voice actors for each character. It kicks the action up to a whole other level. The dramas are complete up dark age which has 2/3 of them out so far.

I need to give these a shot before Red God. Tim Gerard Reynolds set that bar pretty high though.
Pierce gave an update on Red God in an online interview recently. His current draft is over 1000 pages but still not happy with it. No chance it comes out before 2027.

Finished Between Two Fires. Definitely a good one for grimdark fans and/or historical medieval fiction fans (set during the Black Plague).
Over halfway through King Sorrow. I don't know why I'm so drawn to book seires instead of standalones, but I've pushed this one off since it's a standalone. Anyway, it's pretty great. I stayed up until midnight pushing through a fantastic "episode" (the books divided into a sort of episodic series of events that occur periodically with the group of main characters). I was enjoying the book up until this section, and now my enjoyment has been elevated to downright loving it.
Most are probably aware of what it's about, but sort of a Secret History vibe (starts with a group of elite Ivy league kids who summon a dragon into what becomes a Faustian bargain) and then pay the price through their lives. The book then follows the group of friends (and how their deal with the dragon is playing out) over the course of their lives, focusing on specific members of the group with each "period" that the book covers. Anyway, it's a fun read so far and things just keep escalating in scope as the book progresses.

Sounds good. It's got a really good rating on goodreads.
On a random note, if anyone uses goodreads, they now have a DNF option now. Right in time for me DNF'ing something for the first time in ages.

Started the audio version of this yesterday. I was hooked instantly.

Started Blacktongue Thief on audio on Spotify since it was under the 15 hours monthly limit so basically reading it for free. It's narrated by the author. Holy hell i couldn't understand half of what that dude was saying. It's a heavy heavy heavy Irish accent. I had to give up after a few hours because i literally couldn't tell you ANYTHING about the 10 chapters I listened to because I was only grasping half of what he was saying.
I was baffled to look him up today and see the dude is born and raised in America. So this is some extreme accent he is doing for the book. I like the premise of the book so i went ahead and ordered a physical copy.
Had Shadow of the Gods sitting on my shelf for a while now and had been putting it off. Started yesterday and knocked out 75 pages or so yesterday. Seems like a pretty easy read actually. Obviously very early on but enjoyed what I've read so far.

Yeah, it's a pretty easy read as a whole for the series. Gwynne is just good in general. Took me a long time to read that series too honestly, even though I loved his other books.
The Blacktongue thief is a good read, but he's taken forever to get book 2 out.

Finished the first two books in the Empyrean/fourth Wing series. I do like the world building. I do like the action. I'm sure it's been said a thousand times.. but man do I dislike the relationship at the center of it. So annoying and overdone. Also.. the sex scenes are laughably overwritten. The good news is that by just skipping over them, I can plow through the books much faster. They're so badly written that I'll skip over a couple of pages and scan a word or two to get context "Oh! They must be actually doing it now and I can pick up reading next paragraph." Only to find out that they're still just kissing.

naw baw, they're completely realistic and relevant to the story. It really helps you understand the characters and motivations when there is a battle and some dude shows up on a dragon to eat everybody out

It's quite good and original. Sadly, I abandoned the second book in the series. That being said: the first one works just fine as a standalone.

It's not really BAD... it just didn't strike me like the first one did. In reading reddit on it, some people REALLY like it and some people don't. Hopefully you'll enjoy it! Definitely don't not read it based on my experience. I was also sort of ready to get into a different series. I might go back to it in the future and try it again.

I'll let you know what I think. I'm currently on book 8 of the Dresden files and needed something to read in between each one. I can imagine it might get too fantastical if the spiders and humans start working together too much but we shall see.

I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Was planning on reading a different book but that cliffhanger in 17 was the worst yet.
Also picked up the kindle copy of this book for $1.99.

Listened to Piranesi on Spotify for free. Really enjoyed that. Been looking for something similar to The Library at Mount Char for a year now and this is the closest I've gotten. Weird and thought provoking. Not as dark but an enjoyable listen. Had to read up on some stuff because it had some fairly deep themes.
