I think the main problem with Kirkman's explanation is that if he really thought Negan simply beating someone to death was the end of that story and finding out who died was the beginning of the next story then he wouldn't have shown who died in the same comic as the beating occurred either. He knows that explanation is crap he just came up with to lessen the blow of that awful cliffhanger.

And that excuse came after a commercial break where Hardwick told them about the twitter backlash.

they knew damn well there was going to be a huge backlash, in fact they were counting on it. I can see kirkman's fatass giggling as they made this decision.

It hasn't let up today, and the reviews are just as bad.

It's getting hammered by every reviewer. Even the die-hard, TWD never does any wrong crowd.

exept Hardwick of course "OMG OMG OMG Kirkman that was so amazing"

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Hardwick dreams about Kirkman most nights.
I don't remember who said it in which thread but someone said if this episode was last week or the week before it would've been one of tGOAT. It just didn't fit as a finale.

I think it would've been the GOAT Walking Dead finale if we got to see Glenn's brains scrambled and Negan walk off with a "ta-ta". Such a swing and miss with the bat.

This may have been discussed, but what happened to Jesus?
He hasn't been seen since the group ambushed Negan's men.

this would have been fine, if they had had him mumble then yell for Maggie

The roadblocks themselves were impossible. No way they were able to coordinate that in that way without knowing where Rick and the gang were headed beforehand. I guess this could be explained with a "mole," because they would have to absolutely know the Alexandrians are sans any doctors and have a pregnant woman who isn't showing yet. And THEN they'd have to be lucky enough to know where and when Rick's group would be going at least twice so they could know where to put down a bunch of trees that took much longer than the amount of time it took Rick's group to drive there. The way the roadblocks were done seems completely impossible.
I rationalized it by thinking that maybe there were only a couple of routes that they could have possibly taken. It wasn't so much that Negan's men were running from roadblock to roadblock... but that Negan has so many men that they could cover all possible routes.

That is what I extrapolated as well. It was a show of force. Negan started with the quickest path, and made an assumption that Rick would just go to the next closest, then the next closest. So, he just put a few more at each path than the previous, and it worked. When they pulled up to the third or fourth path that had like 50 people at it, Rick was visibly terrified and at a loss as to what to do.
I had made the assumption that every time Rick moved on to the next path, that the previous roadblock would move up behind him so that eventually he would be trapped on the highway, surrounded on all sides by all of Negan's little groups.

You can't forget that Hardwick hosts a show that is basically a PR campaign for TWD. His job is to bloviate about how amazing it is.

I think all of the comic readers know underneath that Glenn is dead. This may be one reason why they decided on the cliffhanger for the TV show. Glenn's death is the impetus for major plot changes going forward. I think the cliffhanger could have been done better, but I don't have a problem with not revealing that it was Glenn.

I hope next season begins with a replay of the eenie meenie miny mo scene from the finale, except when he swings the bat it's not from the view of whoever he kills so we can see who it is.

I am totally on board with that line of thinking until they block off a road with cut down trees (which would have taken lots of work) and used that particular street as the "big reveal" as they hang the guy they showed the group in the first meet-up. I can believe they would know Rick and company would first try to take the quickest possible route, and I can believe they would block off all other routes with men, but I can't believe they had enough time to block that one route with trees and knew Rick and company would be going that way at that point in so they could hang that guy in front of them.

This is exactly what I expect. I posted a 11 second clip that is no longer available on Thursday. It showed two different angles simultaneously. One angle was the exact same POV that we saw last night. The other was a side view of Negan smacking the person with the bat, say: "Whoa!, Taking like a Champ." The actual victim was obstructed by something in the clip and it looked like it was supposed to be a reflection in a mirror.
