Still immersed in Longmire. Just finished As the Crow Flies, the eighth, and about to begin the ninth Serpent's Tooth.
I am enjoying the heck out of these, Johnson's characters are SO deep and well-drawn. Most of them are downright hilarious to boot.

I'm reading the Case for Jesus by Brandt Pitre. I've been into biblical history lately.

Just finished Artemis by Andy Weir today. I had asked about it maybe six weeks ago after I finished The Martian and got some good feedback. I enjoyed it, but not nearly as much as The Martian. The narrator, Jazz, tended to annoy me at times. Pretty fun and quick read, though. I worked through it in about a week.
In the meantime I got sidetracked by The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, which I really enjoyed. I've seen the American film version (and liked it) but it has been a while since I've seen it. There were also a lot of significant differences in that version and the book. I've got the other two books in the series that I bought years ago for cheap, but I'm not sure if I want to jump back into it yet. Anyone read either The Girl Who Played With Fire or The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest?

I just finished A Man Called Ove. Before I started it, I was halfway through Steve Jobs, by Isaacson, which I will now finish.

Really enjoyed this book, not my normal thing but really good.
Just finished (in two nights) 'I'll Be Gone In The Dark" and if you like Crime writing you have to read it. Its about the East Area Rapist, Original Night Stalker and his rape and murder spree from 76-86 in California. Its chilling to the core.

Same. Not my normal thing, but I really enjoyed it.
Speaking of serial killers. Have you read "Mindhunter" by John Douglas? The Netflix series has been surprisingly good, but the book is great.

Just ordered it.
Give "I'll Be Gone In The Night" a go. I have a security system and I still got up both nights and checked all the doors and windows.

I just started the Michael McGarrity books last week.
Anyone who enjoyed the Longmire series might like this author.
The series focuses on a former Santa Fe detective who takes cases around New Mexico.
I am only 2 deep in the series but off to a good start. The author does a great job of bringing bum frick New Mexico to life.
Some of the Longmire and Virgil Flowers plot lines are direct rip-offs from this series. If Craig Johnson and John Sandford are copying McGarrity plots then he can't be that bad.
A bonus if you listen to audiobooks is that the same guy who reads the Longmire books (George Guidall) reads this series, he is the best in the business.

I'm also reading the McGarrity books. Did you start with the trilogy that he finished more recently? It's the start of the Kerney's in New Mexico and leads up to the detective novels that he wrote first. The trilogy is excellent.

I wish I could get into those books but I haven't been able to get thru the first yet. I loved the show but feel like I already know what's going to happen.
I'm starting John Grisham's new book today "The Reckoning". Hope it's better than the last few he's put out. Plot sounds interesting enough.

I started with Mexican Hat (#2), then Tularosa (#1). Now I am on Nothing But Trouble (#10?).
Using the free library app so they are missing a good bit of the series.
I'll probably start the trilogy next because it does look interesting.
I love hearing/reading about all these NM towns and history. I have been to every corner of the state so it is like a trip down memory lane. He gets the people spot on too.

You will enjoy the trilogy. It starts with the family settling the land in the 1800's and works it's way up to modern times.

I just finished the 4 book Back to Normal series by Randy McWilson. Just started The Lost Island by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. This is the 3rd or 4th book in the series. If I like it then I'll go back and start with book 1.
