'I'll Be Gone In The Dark" and if you like Crime writing you have to read it. Its about the East Area Rapist, Original Night Stalker and his rape and murder spree from 76-86 in California. Its chilling to the core.

I know what I'll be checking out soon. Thanks for the recommendation.

Also, just starting "Red War" by Kyle Mills.

Have you read "Mindhunter" by John Douglas?

Excellent book. Really like the Netflix series, too.

You will enjoy the trilogy. It starts with the family settling the land in the 1800's and works it's way up to modern times.

I could only get the 2nd and 3rd on my library audiobook app, they were fantastic. I really enjoyed the historical aspect (late 1800s through Vietnam War). And having spent years in that region (southern NM) it deepened my understanding and appreciation of the area and its people.

I am going to buy a hardcopy of the trilogy to keep on the bookshelf.

Just finished reading Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari.

Great book on the history of Homo Sapiens (us). Really makes you question some things though.
I especially enjoyed the chapters regarding The Cognitive Revolution.

I'm in the middle of The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah.

It's a bit of a chick story set in WW2 but pretty good.

This one started great to me but fizzled out sadly. Not as good as the first book and some of the in betweens in the series

How’d you like it?

James Patterson.

Love his series books. You should check out "Black Book" and "Murder Games" by him also. Oh, and the Alex Cross series if you haven't read those books.

I finished Red War and started "The 1st Commandment" by Brad Thor.

I liked it, but did think the end was a bit of a let down. I'll still read all the Mitch Rapp books.

Just finished book 3 of 11 of the Saxon Series (aka the Last Kingdom series). Read the first 3 in about 1.5 month so thought I'd give it a break.

Started this one the other day and it's off to a pretty damn good start:

quote:

The time is 1933, the place, Berlin, when William E. Dodd becomes America’s first ambassador to Hitler’s Nazi Germany in a year that proved to be a turning point in history.

A mild-mannered professor from Chicago, Dodd brings along his wife, son, and flamboyant daughter, Martha. At first Martha is entranced by the parties and pomp, and the handsome young men of the Third Reich with their infectious enthusiasm for restoring Germany to a position of world prominence. Enamored of the “New Germany,” she has one affair after another, including with the suprisingly honorable first chief of the Gestapo, Rudolf Diels.

But as evidence of Jewish persecution mounts, confirmed by chilling first-person testimony, her father telegraphs his concerns to a largely indifferent State Department back home. Dodd watches with alarm as Jews are attacked, the press is censored, and drafts of frightening new laws begin to circulate. As that first year unfolds and the shadows deepen, the Dodds experience days full of excitement, intrigue, romance—and ultimately, horror, when a climactic spasm of violence and murder reveals Hitler’s true character and ruthless ambition.

Suffused with the tense atmosphere of the period, and with unforgettable portraits of the bizarre Göring and the expectedly charming--yet wholly sinister--Goebbels, In the Garden of Beasts lends a stunning, eyewitness perspective on events as they unfold in real time, revealing an era of surprising nuance and complexity. The result is a dazzling, addictively readable work that speaks volumes about why the world did not recognize the grave threat posed by Hitler until Berlin, and Europe, were awash in blood and terror.

Basically about the American ambassador and his family in the year that Hitler and the Nazis consolidate their power into a dictatorship.
