If reports of Jeff Brohm's bump to $6 million/annually are true, he'll be the ninth highest-paid coach in the country. Purdue will be paying their head football coach more money than these programs: Oklahoma, Texas, Penn State, Nebraska, Miami.

Only reason I can think he turned it down is pressure. It will be such a rebuild job for the hometown guy and if he doesn't win big within the first couple of seasons, he will feel the fans turn on him. Petrino really left us in a huge toxic mess

Purdue is not a commuter school, has rigorous academics, and Tiller proved for a decade you can win there. West Lafayette is a great town too. So those are at least three additional reasons for your funeral pyre... I'm sure there are others.

Brohm looks like an up and coming elite coach, but how often have we said that and the guy turned out to be a dud just a couple years later? $6M for an unproven guy coming off 6 wins is madness.

Getting MAC level recruits to 6 wins vs. a tough schedule in a major conference is pretty impressive. It's either pay the guy or he leaves. At Purdue's level, riding the coaching carousel is no sure thing. Might as well pay the guy you want and has proven he is a good fit when you know you can afford it.

When you get $50M in TV money every year and having a dud coach has proven to cost you anywhere from $3-5Million in ticket sales every year...this shite pays for itself man.

If Brohm had a dud recruiting class coming in I guarantee you we'd have offered a max of $4.5M and if he said no then let him walk. He's proven he can recruit to a place that has had 1 top 25 class EVER. That's worth A LOT of $$$.

I can confirm this. Chris Ash was/is a terrible hire who has cratered fan interest in Rutgers football.

Rutgers is going to average 10,000 fans next year. It'll crater the finances of the Rutgers AD.

All because the AD wanted to save $500,000...!

babers in same conference.
Lower expectations. Decent team now.

Louisville stinks now but wants 11-1 and ny6 bowl and beat clem in odd years.

Louisvilles program must be a real shite show if Brohm told them no. Couldn't even throw enough money at him. And Purdue gets to keep their coach. Good deal
And the reporter managed to get the town right. During Notre Dame's "magical season" a few years ago ESPN kept saying Notre Dame was in "Notre Dame, Indiana" instead of south bend. Just dumb

Brohm actually had a pretty solid interview with Bozick (WDRB) regarding the decision. It was pretty clear it was a tough one for him. I admire how candid he was about talking about it at this point.

Brohm did an interview on Louisville sports radio today, even teared up a little discussing disappointing his dad not coming home. Not very often you hear a coach talking about a team he turned down like that.

AD Tyra was here at my school earlier today talking to one of their signees and told the kid they’ll know the new coach within a week. When I asked him (the kid) about Satterfield he just smiled.

Sauces and things.

Then proceeded to give me shite about my UK stuff in my office. Said “we can make you purple”. Nah, I’m good.

I called this

Louisville is a toxic athletic department. Brohm may have a NFL future, why potentially stain that by linking up with Louisville right now?

I don't think Louisville is quite as toxic as it was a year ago but it all came down to Brohm finishing what he started at Purdue.

I think hitting the reset button in the middle of a pretty intensive rebuild you've put so much work into was the real reason he stuck around.

I can't imagine it was easy
Basically telling your home town that you won't come to help it should never be easy

I hear we offered 4.5, he countered with 5 and we went to 5.2 with some pretty strict buyout stuff for the next 3 years....basically locking him in GUS BUS style.

If money isn't an issue and a guy is recruiting VERY well....with the chance to recruit even better...why is everybody so sure a guy is going to jump at the first whiff of an "elite" offer?

What if you plateau at Purdue....the worst that happens to you is that you get to keep coaching for $5Million a year at a P5 school. What happens if you plateau or even have just 1 down year at an elite? Answer....you aren't a HC anymore.
