I really wish there was some kind of NCAA rule restricting universities from commenting on in the media, or contacting, whether directly or indirectly, coaches during their season or post season play

There is, if you notice, all the talk is from fans and the media

Well why in the world does it happen all the time? Is asking permission to talk with a coach just a courtesy or is it mandated by the NCAA? I really don't know what the rules are in this.

peter finney said something inetresting on the subject

i have not been reading many of thse threads so i don't know if it has been mentioend yet but he says

quote:

On Saturday, Alabama plays Auburn, coached by Tommy Tuberville, who is being wooed by Texas A&M. Tuberville's dilemma is he's waiting to see if Miles leaves for Michigan. If he did, I'm told, Tuberville would jump at the chance to coach LSU, a job he has coveted since his days at Ole Miss.

i know the interest that some of the fans have in tubbervile but i never knew he "coveted" the lsu job

I say that Miles should be informed that IF he accepts the Michigan job, then he vacates immediately and pays the 1.25 mil. If he's willing to give up winning a NC and 1.25 million to take a step down to a lower job, then he's not the man I want coaching my Tigers. I'll become a huge Ohio State fan for at least one game a year. It's ashame we can't find an LSU alum that could lead us to a NC. I'm tired enough of being a stepping stone to the NFL. It makes me sick to be a stepping stone to a Big Ten loser. All that said, I'd love it if Les stays and shows that he is as committed to LSU as he is to his alma mater.

what if he
-refuses to let his players put him on the spot b/c it isn't their job to question their coach
or
-says his interests are to go to michigan

then what?

Questions:

Does LSU have any Leverage in this process? It seems like Saban strung LSU along.

Can LSU Require Miles to make a decision on the coaching job by a certain date?

Any truth to Miles/Carr Fallout?

Carr is going to be AD at MI and will likely fire Miles first chance Carr Gets, if Carr and Miles don't get along???

Looked through NCAA Bylaws and couldn't find any information dealing with Coach interviews and hiring/interview periods. Do they only apply to NFL?

Any thoughts are appreciated.

From an entry on the Fox blog after the Carr story:
"have confermation that Mles bought a house in Ann Arbor 2 and a half weeks ago. Just wonder now when the announcement will be made. I think U of M can come up with the money (1.25 mill) to buy him out of the LSU contract and also help with a purchase of a new home from one of the schools greatest local allies."

I seriously doubt this.

Les and family can buy the house of their dreams anytime, especially with the help of Michigan boosters.

I think Les is media-savvy enough not to give people something big like that to talk about.

There's plenty of time to buy a house after he takes the job.

And yes Shreve, I realize this is not your assertion; you're quoting from some blog comments.

The house was bought in Barton, a suburb of Ann Arbor.

In this era of dog eat dog mentality, it would be very refreshing to see Mich wait until LSU's run for the MNC has ended with a loss or the actual game.

Mich is not doing this by allowing Carr to anouce his retirement today. No matter what the outcome, Mich has already impacted LSUs preparation for Arkansas.

These are the only Parcels I can find owned by a Miles in Ann Arbor. I don't know family names, anyone recognize a Miles Relative?

Don't know when the last update was to the website.
