I believe most are out recruiting. Chavis doesn't recruit, but I believe many of them do.

He's been all over Tennessee recruiting 4 guys that LSU was going to get.

This "reputation" started with ignorant UT fans, and now butthurt LSU fans are running with it.

LSU pulls what, 4-5 guys outside of Louisiana and East TX every year? Chavis has gotten a couple of guys from the Carolina's, he got the Chicago LB that Tennessee was on, he was going to get those Middle TN guys and Dylan Jackson.

He may recruit by talking to these kids and I'm sure he travels sometimes, but he doesn't do much recruiting on the road like a lot of coaches. This was known when we got him. Everyone knew it, so the theory of other coaches getting mad about it is bullshite...and it's not hating on him if stating a fact. I don't blame him for that...he was upfront about that from the beginning.

Chavis wanted guaranteed money, and with Les being a few years from retirement, LSU would not offer him that luxury. It's wasn't all about money, per say, but about guaranteed money. I say Les is done after 2016 or 2017.

Chavis doesn't have to get in the car and recruit because his reputation alone is what opened the door for LSU on most of the premier recruits. His reputation of putting people in the league drew top flight recruits and he put Haley or someone else on them to finalize the deal.

The same thing can be said about Nick Saban--he isn't out there driving from high school to high school as someone else does that for him. But when you mention Saban's name recruits automatically get interested the same shite happened with Chavis was running LSUs defense. The defense isn't playing for Miles they were playing for Chavis and his reputation of getting them into the league.

With the money LSU can put on the table and the ability to establish your resume with a swing through LSU I can't see anyone not really wanting this job irregardless of offense or Miles status.

Maybe the other coaches got tired of him not recruiting and were vocal about it

I bet there was dissension on that staff and chavis was the odd man out. he probably took some heat on his '13 D and getting slaughtered by MSU and AU; not to mention yet another melt down by the D against bama.

so, if Chavis felt above reproach for his results and the pressure was building it makes lots of sense to pocket more dough and leave. also, those contractual provisions mean that our 3 year deal had a smaller guarantee than the aggies. if this is his last rodeo he probably wanted the xtra money before retiring.
