Well this is out of left field.

A splashy stunner: UAB is targeting former Super Bowl champion QB Trent Dilfer as its next coach, sources tell

.

Dilfer, in his 4th season as a HS coach, is 38-8 at Lipscomb Academy in Nashville with a state title. Also is coach of Elite 11 QB.

That’s dumb.

Many schools have tried to hire high school coaches. None have been successful.

Wow. UAB players had sent a letter to the UAB President today expressing their desire to see their interim HC, Bryant Vincent (who has coached them the entire season after Bill Clark abruptly stepped away due to back issues), named head coach.

ADs should never listen to what players want

How many of those high school coaches also were the qb on a Super Bowl winning team?

UTSA has done alright with a HS coach.

But this is just so out of left field. Had very mixed feelings on retaining Vincent, and am very glad it's not Skip Holtz but...I dunno.

Players know frick all about what’s best for the program. They shouldn’t get input. It’s a big reason we ended up with Matt Luke as our head coach

Malzahn and Freeze were both plucked from the high school ranks and moved their way up.
