I hope it's Nielsen, but I do think Mason could be really good here. Our run defense would be lights out under Nielsen and our pass rush would be lethal imo.

if Mason prefers a 3-4 and we have started to shift to a 4-3 we are possibly entering a very les miles esq square peg and round hole issue. We started recruiting geared to 4-3 base players, we switch back to a 3-4 and now we have mismatched players, or we ask mason to change his system to a 4-3.

LSU fans: O should take his time talk to as many people as possible and interview them.
Also LSU fans: WHAT THE HELL IS HE DOING TALKING TO THAT GUY?

O’s bayou boy, Mike D, said today O is married to the 4-3
But as we know with O, marriages don’t really last

I’d prefer Freeman but wouldn’t be mad with Mason

Well you’re right except for the number of wives and years of marriage...

Lol, if they hire mason... then orgeron is gone next year.

Does he at least run an attacking 3-4?

Actually it might be the best hire to save O's job.

I have noted in other threads that what appears to be going on is that Woody and the TAF money folks are not giving O carte blanche decision making with respect to how much to pay a DC. He had the chance when he replaced Aranda and Brady with Bo and Linehan. LSU is on the hook for almost $6 million.
He was tasked with finding the coach he wanted to replace aranda with. Not his fault that Woodward has a history of approving huge contracts.

Thus, you hire Mason, who was a darn good DC at Stanford from 2011 to 2013.
Pelini had good defenses in 2006 and 2007. Big whoop. What have they done lately? Been historically bad.
quote:
Coach O in my view does not have the ability to go out and make a splash hire like Freeman from Cincinnati, which would require another Bo Pellini type contract.
Do you spend 1.5 mill this offseason to save more money later or do you save a lil money now and spend a lot more later? Thats the question. If the AD and TAF doesn't trust O then why is he still here?

I just know he won’t be as good as Aranda *sighs*. I miss that man.
