In regards to the previous football coaching search, and even this one I suppose, ya. As far as finances go, absolutely not. According to Bill Martins wiki page "Michigan’s athletic department, headed by Martin, was just one of six in the United States to show a budgetary surplus in each of the five years from 2004 to 2008. For nine straight years (2000–2008) it achieved a surplus."
We just upgraded the football stadium and the final results are more than fans expected. They upgraded football workout facilities, they are upgrading Crisler Arena and the basketball facilities, we are installing new scoreboards in the football stadium, doing stuff in Yost Ice Arena, all while maintaining a surplus, so I'd say the Athletic Department is far from being a crap hole, coaching searches aside.

Football's the only thing that counts. But thanks for the extra info. By the way there are only two athletic depts that don't take any money from their universities: LSU and Nebraska.

Football is our AD's cash cow. Basically our football program supports the other sports teams at Michigan, thats how much money it makes.

Ya, I'm an idiot, considering another poster asked me about our Athletic Department and I was giving him answers that go further up the page as well. He wasn't asking about every other school. I was informing him of how we have had a budget surplus the past 9 years and our football program generates enough cash to keep the other programs running. Thanks for your input though...
