Martin just seems really weak. Like he's letting people on each side tug him around

Or Lou Holtz naming Bob Davie and then trying to position Skip to replace him at USC.

Ferentz is not a candidate. They could have him at any time. His season ended when Mich's did and he is not going bowling. No need to wait.

The Mich nation now has elevated expectations after the Miles thing. Whether Miles was ever a real candidate or not, hiring beneath him now will take an incredible sell job. Especially with big $$ donors. What ever "white fuzzy rabbit" Martin pulls out of his hat at the end of all this it now needs to be a reall big, really white, really fuzzy one.

His legacy depends on it.

I'm not sure why he just didn't give the people what they want. Miles for AD & HC...

Not sure, but maybe Miles was not the guy. Certainly the prospect of getting into a bidding war (regardless of what Miles, his friends or anyone else says -- he does have an agent and agents get paid for making the most of their clients' opportunities) with LSU was a turn-off. Frankly, once Mich got in, Miles and his agent knew they could never withdraw. They had to win. Martin certainly knew that too. So why get in at all.

I think something else is going on. There is just no sense of urgency. Couple that with the fact that they knew Lloyd was leaving some time ago, I almost think that there were many back-channels working well before the Lloyd announcement. Les's was one, but I bet there were others.

Martin likes things buttoned up before he pulls the trigger, so it makes sense that the deal is done. The "search" is just for appearances, esp. the minority piece. And, just before or after the Mich bowl game there will be an announcement. One that was consumated probably in Oct/Nov.

They certainly don't seem to have any other strong candidates.

What is the date of Cincy's bowl game?

Any chances that Kelly is locked up and wants to finish the season at Cincy and UM agreed since it isn't too late in the bowl season?

Just throwing shite to see if it will stick.

ETA: It is on Dec. 22

Apparently, Kelly isn't even a candidate.

For those who don't know what the "personal issue" is that everyone talks about - some of Kelly's players were involved in some sort of incident and refused to talk to police about it.

Kelly argued with the police that, "It's a cultural thing" in regards to the black players not wanting to talk to the police.

Ah, haven't kept up with it....but that would be something worth avoiding on UM's part.

None that is visible, but then again no one has ever seen the list. No one knows what the advisory committee's input on the prospective candidate list was, no one knows anything.

If, on the other hand you are refering to the dithering that goes on in the media, well today it's this guy, tomorrow it's someone else. They have no idea. It appears Mich is not going to hire this individual through the media. That seems to have prompted them to lob bombs to see what reaction they get. So far no reaction! Guess they don't know much after all!

I didn't read this whole thread cuz it's too long, but Ferentz is making over 3 million at Iowa, which comes as a big shock to me, but would Michigan even come close to Matching that?

I've also posted on here, which everyone bashed....That Michigan has said they aren't in a big big hurry to name a new coach. They aren't going to panic and just hire someone. They want to get the right guy.

Especially if you know the rabid PC nature of the Mich Admin. They spent millions defending a clearly illegal admissions policy. But their progressive tree-hugging sensibilities would not allow them to concede what was clear to everyone else.

Plus, check out USA Today online. They have the contracts for all 107 public BSC coaches and all their compensations. Read some of the clauses for dismissal. Maybe Kelly didn't have one at CMU, maybe they chose a loose intrepretation to keep him on, but by the rule of most major players he would have been dismissed for cause, not just for what he said.
