I say he retires within the next 5 years. If we win this year, I think he definitely leaves if we get another within 3 years. Go out on top.
serious question: if he wins one more championship and then retires, will he be on the same "pedestal" as bear?

In all seriousness, when he fails to meet his own standard of success. Consecutive four or five loss seasons.
The only person removing Saban is Saban

I think he'll have it planned out for a while so that the University can hire someone for the future and leave the program on the highest point possible.
This. and probably take a job within the Alabama athletic department or with the SEC offices

He can't have too much time left.
Suddenly retire on top after a 5th/6th/7th NC?
Announce his retirement at the beginning of the season, and have a farewell season?
Leave Bama high and dry, bolting for somewhere else?
And when do you think it will happen?
Dies at desk of heart attack in like 3 years, or had a brain aneurism after a bad snap at practice in like 4.

Purely as a coach, I think Saban is better than Bear.
The pedestal for Bear is because he was so much more than a coach. He built Bama and was a community leader, philanthropist, a dominating presence over the state for decades. A mythic figure.

He and Kirby drive over a cliff like Thelma and Louise

IF they win it this year.... He will leave after next year no matter what happens... Goes to West Virginia and run his dads gas station..........

Saban doesn't seem the type to have hobbies or do anything else but coach. I think he stays for a while

I'm thinking the Petrino ending or the Thelma and Louise ending

I would enjoy that. Probably wouldn't help his stress though.

I think he won't retire until he wins at least 6 titles, maybe 7 if he wants to go one over Bear.
Now, if he ever gets to a point where he hasn't reached either of those totals and begins to think he can't, he'd retire then.
I think he has longer left than people think, though. The one thing I want is for us to all know in advance, like maybe he decides when his final season is and tells us in the offseason beforehand. It'd make the environment even more special, and build up to a "Thank You Nick" or "Thank You Saban" chant in the final home game.

saban just looked old and worn during the IB. I hadn't seen him much since last season, but when the camera would zoom on him, he just looked like he had aged a ton.
not sure how much longer he's got but I'd put a cap of ~6 years if he keeps going like that

he wanted Houston Nutt at LSu when he left....
so yeah I hope he does this.

He still looks younger than he is. A lot of that is artificial though.

I think you're probably right. He hasn't lost his fire yet, but he is showing signs. I think this year's team has helped him as it has been a legitimate challenge to work with this year's team and it's a team that wants to win and isn't basing their own success on previous Alabama teams. 2010 and 2013 are prime examples of team's that just aren't motivated enough to keep Saban motivated.
