I know it's not my money, but these numbers are getting so absurd that I would think they are going to negatively impact LSU's NIL budget. At some point Lane has to like the offer and also want to have a huge NIL budget.

I don't doubt that your source is confident in the information they're sharing, but every day that goes by without an 'expected' leak or news break makes it feel more and more likely this ends up going in a different direction. Hopefully we can get this wrapped up sooner rather than later, even if that means moving on from Lane onto target #2

If you believe this here is the explanation:
Kiffin has been zeroed in on LSU for a bit now but he wants to coach his team. He probably tried to figure out how to have it all…coach OM thru the end and then go to LSU. OM wasn’t having that. We are now at “it benefits OM to let him coach the team thru the egg bowl and just manage the fallout during the holiday week.”
LSU is fine with that. This is the week that all the finer details get hammered out.
At some point UF will start acting like it’s over for them.
Things that will point away from this being true if you don’t believe it:
- Florida continues to operate like they are still in the hunt for LK.
That’s your big tell. Sexton can’t leave them hanging because he will want to be the agent for their next coach. He isn’t burning a professional bridge like that. There IS a balancing act in keeping all the info quiet. But he won’t burn a big school for it.
Things that don’t tell you anything:
- silence. The only team not invested in keeping things quiet is the team that’s out.
- anything Kiffin says that isn’t an announcement of signing an extension with OM
