bad years happen. ND stuck with Kelly and had a great run. Many programs panic and pull the trigger (see Texas) and then get stuck as the new coach has to "rebuild"

Does it matter?
Everyone says LSU elevates coaches beyond what they were previously accomplishing.
So if we hire a coach who was already going 11-2 each year, with top 10 recruiting classes, and playoff appearances every few years, what is that coach going to be capable of doing at LSU?

The people that do not like Kelly thought ND would never be anything because of their requirements for entry.
Their schedule is not easy (compared to any non-sec team) -- he is a fantastic coach.

They play mostly P5 teams and Navy. Every year they have 1 cupcake. Next year they are playing Ohio State, Clemson, and USC.
A lot of people make fun of their schedule because they don’t have a conference but they essentially play 10 conference games a year. Their 2 biggest rivals, USC and Stanford, have just been down the last few years so it makes the schedule seem way softer.

What I've gathered from ND fans is Kelly did a complete internal evaluation of himself as a coach after that season and made a lot of changes with the program that led to the success of the past 5 years. Pretty impressive if true.
