I agree with you. If Lane stays he will be more popular than ever. Hes charismatic as can be and will win the OM fans back no problem.
The players might be tougher but I mean it's the heckin Egg Bowl and then the playoffs. They'll get over it.

Any normal ole miss fan has to feel this way. I'd be pissed if he was pulling this shite at lsu. It's childish and he knows what he is doing.
In a way I don't even want him at lsu anymore just because of all the bullshite. I believe in him as a coach and taIent evaluator in the fullest. I wanted him 4 years ago and said it on this board.
I'd still take kiffin but I don't think lsu fans will take him well if he does come.

A couple things wrong in your thought process:
1) It won't be a positive for Ole Miss after the way he handled this. LSU and Florida can just say he was scared of the pressure. This will intensify if LSU and/or Florida hire other coaches and win a title while he is still at Ole Miss.
2) Do you honestly think the Ole Miss boosters haven't given what they can to help with funding Lane's teams/coaches/etc.? Look at the roster they had last year.
Lane may stay at Ole Miss, but it will be because of the relationships he's built to this point with his support staff and players. He's not doing this to get Ole Miss to to pony up more money. That might be a serendipitous effect, but it's not the reason he's doing this.

This reminds me of the numerous 5 star players that would promise LSU they were committing to them and then on signing day, sign with Alabama. (per instructions of Saban). This hurt LSU with not getting the initial player and not getting anyone that didn't want to compete against him for playing time.

The report in the NYT about them wanting an answer by the egg bowl sped up the timeline

Yes I think Kiffin today was able to deny what mcafee asked because they used the word “ultimatum” in the question

He's sends Layla to UF on Sunday with little coverage. She goes to LSU yesterday and it's blown up nationally with pictures. I think Florida's offer wasn't enough, so the trip to BR was Sexton's way of getting Florida to pony up.
