I gotta say I made fun of him as a head coach. I still don't think he is a great coach (but he is adequate), but...
We'll see what happens, BUT am I the only one that's a little disturbed by the $$$ Orgeron is likely to be paid as our asst. head coach/recruiting coord./D-line coach?
- "LSU definitely stepped up to the plate and gave him what he wanted. He's going to be one of the highest paid assistant coaches in the country." - Bobby Hebert LINK
I understand that NCAA football programs bring in $$$, etc. BUT it's still college football, right?:
USAToday Sports (12/5/07)
Note:
- Coach Miles earns b/w $3.2-3.5m/yr (a base of $300K/yr) LINK
- Coach Paterno earns only $500k/yr LINK

Coach Paterno earns only $500k/yr
quote:500K is his "salary". Paterno is extremely private about his total compensation as is PSU. Both toss out the "salary" figure as press-bait when they have to. He may not be pulling in >3million, but he's well enough compensated to have donated big money back to the university.
The State Employees’ Retirement System released Paterno’s salary Thursday . . . He was paid $490,638 last year, according to the retirement system . . . Paterno said Thursday he makes more money than is reflected in the retirement system’s figures, but didn’t specify how much.

Which was my point... we understand JoePa earns $$$.

The DL coach makes more than the DC?
He is Associate Head Coach as well so that explains the difference

Just for clarity, in 2009 would you trade JoePa (even at $500K) vs Miles at his income?

why does this disturb you?

With Coach "O", Chavis, and Miles, no reason why LSU would not be in the top 3 in the nation in recruiting every year. Chavis should help bring in top LB talent!

Coach O is not a done deal yet

Not a done deal in the sense that the contract hasn't been signed. But even the most pessimistic Tiger fan knows there's less than a 5% chance that this doesn't get done.

Because LSU could use some of this $$$ to improve its academics...
...bring in a better professor, increase a dept.'s budget, etc.
Academically, LSU ranks near the bottom among SEC schools.

Thank God for Ole Miss and Miss State. Those are the only 2 schools behind LSU in academics.

Nope.
I was noting two salaries of interest - LSU's salary and the recently revealed PSU salary.

NC Tigah - relax.
Nobody thinks that. Really.

No (b/c of JoePa's age)

I don't know what that survey data is based on, but there is no way in hell that Alabama is a better school than Auburn.
I'm sure Alabama has some good programs (I believe they have a decent law school) but they aren't even close. Alabama sucks about as bad as LSU. Auburn shows up consistently on the 'best values' in public education, etc. They have outstanding engineering.
On the bright side: LSU is improving! We need to get past Arkansas though. It's embarrassing.

I agree. Coach O's past should concern everyone. Will he be able to get along with the other coaches? Time will tell.
Controversy has followed him everywhere he has coached and recruited. Isn't USC still under investigation for certain recruiting violations that occurred while he was their offensive line coach?
What about getting rid of the FCA while he was Ole Miss and then there is the restraining order he received while he was at the University of Miami. Does anyone know if these allegations are true or simply just hearsay.

We're obviously on the outside looking in, but I agree...buyer beware.
I really do hope it works out - I can't go through another 7-5 season.

You work around or in media circles, don't you? Consistently a few hours before a story breaks, you come out with the truth. What up?
