I'm not going to lie - I disliked the annual flirtation with the NFL and the leveraging that into more and more money.

well Les did it with Arkansas last year...

However, once he was gone - I was okay with it - the man was following his "dream." But then he quits after 2 seasons - 2 f*cking seasons. THEN TAKES THE JOB AT BAMA. Had he soldiered on in Miami for 4 or 5 years - given it a legitimate shot - then come back to college - pretty much anywhere except the SEC West - I would be fine with it.

spot on. Waited til Christmas then returned on our Sugar Bowl day

That was silly and out of character - if Les didn't leave for Michigan, he wasn't going to leave for Arkansas.

I don't think the relationship is quite as strained between him and the administration, anymore. I look at that as an anomaly.

Miles stays another few years, wins 138+ games and retires as LSU's winningest coach. It remains to be seen if it will be somebody like Cameron or Frank Wilson (or an outsider) who will get the next opportunity.

They could have really embarrassed Miles.

I have no idea why he thinks he would have leverage by talking to Arkansas. I would have exposed what he was doing and called him out. Gone on the record saying Miles wouldn't get a penny more and "he should honor his contract".

Make him look like the greedy cocksucker he is.

I think he extended for a longer term and more money for his assistants - while I'm not going to defend everything he's done, I would recommend keeping such things in perspective.

Look what the Bobby Petrinos and Lane Kiffins of the world have done to their programs.

I'm just saying the AD could have flipped the table on Miles and put him in a bad PR spot.

I just have to point something out here. One of the biggest differences between bama fans and LSU fans (and there are many) is that when Saban was at LSU all the Tiger fans expected him to do his normal and cut out sooner or later. Bama fans are absolutely convinced Saban would never leave them.

Complete BS. LSU fans thought he adored and would never leave LSU until the day he left. Your fans were so arrogant about his undying love of Baton Rouge that many of you are convinced he was begging to come back to LSU after his first year at Alabama. On the other hand, I see MANY MANY Bama fans who admit it is only a matter of time before Saban leaves shortly for Texas or for retirement.

Why? Because he is so enamored with living in a strip mall with a college out back he can't leave Tuscaloosa? Because a man of his humility is truly honored to play second fiddle to a coach who has been dead over 30 years? Because in spite of the fact that every college has tradition a West Virginia native who went to Kent State in Ohio just loves Bama tradition more? Are you Bama people all completely insane?

Better than living in the oil refinery/chemical plant choked environmental disaster know as cancer alley in South Louisiana. Ironic that you bring up a strip mall as by many of your own fans admission it was an LSU grad who got Saban mired in debt with Perkins Row in Baton Rouge. If he didn't despise you ingrates before, he definitely does now. No wonder he was so desperate to get away from there.

Saban doesn't care about you, your school, your state, your fans, your dozens of made up championships, Bear Bryant, any of it. Saban only cares about Saban. And he will do whatever most appeals to his massive ego. Wake up, gumps. Talk about massive, and massively misguided ego.

FTR, I think Saban takes the Texas job for reasons that have very little to do with Alabama. If the rumors of bad debt are true, he apparently has Texas boosters that will get him out of the hole his LSU partner got him into and he wants to win a title at a 3rd different school. Alabama fans will be sad and a few will melt down but most will show him much more appreciation than the ingrates at LSU did.

A couple of quick points: First off, every single LSU fan thought of Saban as a rental from day one. We all knew he was leaving, but thought he could get our program back on track and accepted this.

Second, why are you comparing Tuscaloosa with Baton Rouge? He is comparing Tuscaloosa with Austin, or possibly with North Virginia. Don't let your anger with me obscure the facts, Saban isn't coming back to LSU.

Saban rumors- the latest
Several interesting rumors floating around.
9 mil to Texas. Signed contract day before auburn game.

Now I think this is completely bullshite. But there are several interesting points
1. Why would Terry Saban say what she did! even though I think it was a slip of the tongue. If you are gone, you might want to get off your chest just how you feel.
2. Why haven't Saban and Battle announced a new long term contract like A&M did with Sumlin. This would have put all these rumors to bed.
3. Saban coached against auburn like his heart and soul were not in it. Just saying.
4. Saban looked more relaxed on Gameday and was wearing tie colors of Texas. He could have stated publicly I am getting ready to sign new deal and I am ending all this doubt. Did did not do that.
5. If it's going to happen, it will be soon, before the college awards so no embarrassing moment for Saban or Mack.

Now, I don't think any of this is going to happen, but if it does, I. have gone from being totally skeptical to it being slightly plausible.

I hope coach stays. If not, thank you for the memories and so long.

If I recall there was a part of the old contract that had LSU really bent over the barrel and the new contract did away with it. Maybe it was the buyout or something like that. I remember people discussing that LSU's side really wanted it out. Anyone remember the particulars?
