Saban calls more "cutesy" plays than most think. They are usually low risk though. The Maze pass wasn't that bad and I liked throwing it to Williams who went up and got it, but Reid made a play.
I love when he calls the flea-flicker. Perfect trick play for Bama. Low risk. Easy to get defenses to bite on a Bama run play.

What should Miles give back
Not a damn thing!
He hasn't been afraid to let his kicker try one from the 13 to push a lead to two scores with five to play.

So that excuses his other blunders? That makes sense.

Nice try at covering your coaches arse by redirecting the topic to another coach.
Saban was afraid to let your kickers try a FG from the fricking 13 to push your lead to two scores with five to play? Is that really the best you guys can come up with to cover his clusterfrick blunder?
Saban's a great coach, but he fricked up big time.

I will agree that he made some mistakes in the 4th quarter, but I would still rather take those mistakes (along with his successes) than to choose anyone else to be the head coach. No one bats a 1.000

the biggest question for me is this: if you're going to change kickers for a 89 yard field goal attempt, why not make that change and let the guy attempt a 30 yard field goal first? Changing kickers for a 30 yard field goal that would've sealed the game seems like a much safer call then asking the guy to kick the ball a mile.

Saban Still In Play For Texas Head Coaching Position?

True. Saban is the best there is. It isn't even close. But yeah, I'll go ahead and say it...
Nick Saban still is no Bear Bryant. Bryant would have kicked that 30 yard field goal without even flinching. Not only that, I seriously doubt that Bryant would ever have given the kicking job back to a guy he had lost confidence in two years before, just because he hadn't found a better alternative. He would have found one.

Beats me, I can't really question your logic here. I try not to think about it too much.

That's the truth - he would have signed 5 or 6 every year until he found one.
If nothing else, to make sure that Auburn didn't get them.

My cousin attended the game, and said that Griffith (the freshman kicker) was halfway onto the field on the 3rd FG attempt, and Saban called him back and sent Foster on to kick. That was the one that wound up being blocked

What? You responded to a post about Miles (that was not made by me). And I responded your post. I didn't change the topic at all.
He messed up, but how can you not see that Saban is the best coach in the nation and deserves to be paid accordingly? You seem to ignore everything Saban has done since his last raise and focus on his last game. That's very short-sighted.
"Sorry Nick. That mistake you made against Auburn erases the SEC and BCS championship you won since your last raise. We're content with you making your current salary."
Especially after Terry's comments about not being appreciated. Yeah, your idea seems a lot more logical.

I think Griffith was put in for a stronger leg combined with the fact that Cade had struggled and had a low kick blocked. I think Saban was more worried about having the kick blocked than returned. I do regret putting Griffith in because that meant Mandell was holding. Had Foster been in, AJ would have been holding. And I think AJ would have had the sense to get in position to at least attempt a tackle.
I wouldn't have minded if Griffith had been put in in the 3rd FG attempt (or the 4th if we tried it at the 13), but if he missed (or had it blocked) on either then Saban would have been chastised for pulling Foster and putting in a freshman. Foster had been very solid on the year prior to the Auburn game. And has been pretty solid ever since the GOTC I.

I think it's obvious that this wasn't Saban's best coached game. TIME...TO....MOVE.....ON. ALSO..It has been 7 days since you predicted Saban would announce he's going to Texas. WHAT GIVES?

He deserves to be paid what Alabama thinks he's worth. An almost 50% pay raise when he is already the highest paid seems to be a knee jerk reaction to some fear that might have been real or not, but it's not my money.

Saban to Texas on January 3rd or 4th.

Most coaches in the nation didn't even get the chance to play a game on a "grand scale" this year, especially that level. Normally, making a mistake like that would be buried. But we were on a national stage, and we were on that national stage because of Saban.

knee jerk reaction
Maybe so, but it's not like he was given a raise with no merit. 24-2, SEC Championship, BCS Championship, and a BCS Bowl Appearance and a great chance to finish #3 in the final polls. That gets a hefty raise no matter where you are.
And you keep calling it an almost "50%" raise to make it look more dramatic. It's reported to be between $7MM and $7.5MM a year, up from $5.4MM. The means even on the high end, it would only be a 38% pay raise. And only a 30% pay raise on the low end.
So it's not even really close to a 50% raise. Considering a 50% raise would have put him up over $8MM. Really no need to exaggerate his raise.
