That's part of why he's such a good recruiter--he's great at the grind.

no doubt. Herman was not coming and Jimbo wanted too much I guess.

I am not necessarily saying he learned a ton under those coach's tutelage exactly, just that he got to observe how entire the job is to make those bigs programs run from day to day. If only by osmosis.

False. Hired 10-25 with no interviews of coaches with winning records = terrible hire.

I don't really have any doubt he can handle the day to day stuff, it's all in the binder. It's the bigger, "holistic", meshing/identity stuff that I worry about. Will he understand that all three phases have to complement each other, for example. Couple that with an innate sense of managing the flow of the game that I'm not sure he has.

Maybe not. We'll see. Like I said,I didn't like him and hated the "search." I am merely suggesting we don't all rush out and perform seppuku. And maybe we could have a handful of decent conversations without the sarcasm.

A) I think Jimbo wanted to come last year but we screwed it up and he wanted no part of it this year.
B) No one will ever convince me that we didn't have a legit shot at Herman. The reports came out after the fact that Alleva had his man until we lost to UF. Had Alleva been working on Herman for a while we may have already had him sold on LSU. Then, after Alleva finally made a push for Herman, we bolted as soon as he mentioned Texas. We don't know if Herman really wanted LSU or not because we didn't even negotiate. We had money available, Herman should have been the guy and we should have gone up to more than $6 million to grab him. Perhaps he would have ended up at Texas anyway, but we will never know because Alleva was sold on O and was looking for any excuse to hire him.

Come on, Herman was UT bound as soon as the job opened. He didn't even consider LSU at that point.

People seem to think he stupidly stumble his way into the gig. Not true
Nobody who listens to 104.5 thinks this. This was a masterful campaign from the jump led by media with Rush/Ponamsky at the helm

We didn't even get serious about Herman until the last week. Had we been working Herman all along maybe a good AD could have convinced him that LSU was better for him than Texas.
I've posted this before, but Jeremy Foley convinced Urban Meyer to come to Florida instead of his dream job, which was open, Notre Dame.

I'm surprised that Gordy Rush has escaped scrutiny as most of the ire has gone to Ponamsky. Gordy was pumping Orgeron quite hard as well.

Exactly. And in hindsight, that was obvious to us. Maybe it was to Alleva too, in the moment. No sense getting in a war you are destined to lose. I believe 100% Herman would be our coach if Strong had managed to win a couple more games. But he didn't, and Herman isn't. Ifs and buts and candy and nuts--whatever the saying is. It is what is, we are where we are, and it be cause it do. Still, Let's all have a Merry Christmas.

But if we can get past the Cajun, BBQ, Boudreaux and Thibideaux, gumbo, and jambalaya jokes for a second, be intellectually honest with each other--and ourselves--then maybe we could have a decent discussion about LSU football again, rather than everybody racing to their fatalistic corners to make fun of and call everybody that disagrees with them retarded
Too soon. I'm... I'm just not ready yet.

You completely ignore the fact that herman, Jimbo, and Orgeron are not the only people that are college coaches in the nation
the fact that we had a 3 man search with only ONE interview is a bigger joke than Os resume. Defend O because hes a good ole boy all you want but you are the one being intellectually dishonest if you are defending Joe Allevas actions

Carl, there's not too many things you post that I disagree with...this isn't one of them either.
Excellent post. Agreed on everything in it.
