I think Herman wanting to stay in TX and waiting out UT is the biggest issue for LSU. He knows Strong is on his way out in the next couple of years so he can wait it out at UH.

All started from UT beat writer.

If UH doesn't join Big 12, he'll be at LSU.

I think Texas would rather hire a new DC at this point.

Herman and his wife are from the Cali. They may decide to make a move too.
some south carolina mod from 247, who spent time in houston last yr to cover herman during their coaching search, said that the people he spoke to told him they don't want to go back to cali.

They want to see how Strong does the next two weeks (vs Okie State/Oklahoma) and if its a poor showing, watch out.

Am I crazy to think Strong is a good coach? I know his performance in Texas hasn't been great, but I'm still confident that he'll get that program turned around.

Well, I guess everyone will be hoping that Texas starts winning to remove one obstacle from LSU's path.

Texas will have an image issue if it forces out Strong...when they beat ND in the first game, the players carried Strong off the field...my guess is that the players will have a big issue with Texas running him off.

nah...not if their record is 7-5.

If Texas is 7-6 or better they will keep Strong I dont think they have the balls to fire him if he at least has a winning record. The Big 12 is so down they will pull that off

Hell, the Big 12 is so bad this year that they may win the conference

Texas could have hired Herman instead of Strong but they didn't. They let Houston get him and now LSU is going to get him. To bad for the Longhorns.

He was pretty unproven at the time.

LSU also couldve hired him last yr??? Instead of all in on Jimbo?

Nope, he's a very good coach. He's in his 3rd year and just had two top 10 recruiting classes the past 2 years. And besides, the Big 12 is so down this year they may not lose another game.

LSU hasn't had an opening for 12 years. UT had one a couple of years ago. The point I'm making is that everyone is acting like there's some kind of mystical connection between UT and Herman. Like he's the piece they've been keeping on the side and now they're getting possessive as soon as LSU shows interest. If Herman is their dream coach and UT his dream job, they could have hired him in 2014. Herman apparently likes Texas (the state) but he only spent ONE YEAR as a GA at Texas (the university) aND Ive never seen a quote from Herman saying UT is where he wants to be. I think Strong gets another year and LSU gets Herman.

Strong took over a dumpster fire. He's brought in two straight Top 10 recruiting classes and has them ranked for the first time in several years. I think they give him another year. He needs to fix the defense and he'll have the Longhorns winning again.

I'm saying last year when they were ready to fire Les but didnt. They couldve moved on Herman but the word was it was Jimbo or bust. last min it fell apart supposedly.

I like Strong, he was great for us and I think he can coach. That said I'm sure UT sees whats going on down in Houston like everyone else and may make the move just to land the new hot name thats in their own state.

Agreed. The fan base from what I hear is still very high on Strong too. I don't think he's going anywhere this season.

Our defense, Strong's specialty, is absolutely abysmal.

Our premier Notre Dame win has been quashed after Notre Dame's pathetic performance against Duke.

We have the bulk of our schedule ahead of us with some high-powered, offensive teams: @ Oklahoma St, Oklahoma, @ K State, Baylor, @ Tech, West Virginia, TCU.

What it really should boil down to, Texas waltzes through all of these teams with Tom Herman. With Strong, I see at bare minimum, 3 more losses.

So, Strong is safe with:

Year 1: 6-7
Year 2: 6-7
Year 3: 7-6

Like we did with Mack Brown's 8-5 season?

If we go 7-6, in a down Big 12, with one of the best coaches in the country sitting at a mid-major school in our state, Strong won't be safe.

They'll throw $10,000,000 at Herman.
