He's had some good defenses and some not so good defenses.

I'm patient enough to wait until they announce the new staff before I give up any hope.

I really wish there were/are/is some young hot(s) shot looking for a job like this who is/are hungry so he/they can parlay his/their success into a head coaching position.

im personally all for Chavis. I lived in Knoxville for quite about 4 years and went to quite a few UT games. He is not as passive as yall think. The reasons that he has had off years as of late is that he didnt have the same type of talent as he did in the 90's. I was also there when he had Haynesworth and Henderson as DT's and that defense was sick. Tennessee lost alot of games because of it's qb play and the OC Randy Sanders. Chavis is a spectacular choice in my book.

Something to think about, how long would you have Walker? And what length of tenure would he give you would be worth his hire? I am as much for winning now as the next person, but you are risking the future of the program if you hire someone that you are 99% sure will be gone after one year if he is successful.

Maybe Miles agrees with you, that Walker is better for next year, but he thinks Chavis as a long term option is much more valuable than Walker as a one season option. Especially if he thinks a guy like O can be a D coordinator in waiting.

That's a valid point. I would say 2-3 years out of Walker would be worth the hire. If that doesn't work out, Robinson or Chavis would be fine. Personally, I think that any of those three with Coach O would be a great hire. O is the X factor that could make any of these guys a phenomanal hire.

Not bashing LSU at all, but as a Saints fan I certainly haven't been impressed with the way the D-Line has played this season. Our DEs have practically been invisible in opposing team's backfields. We should have just let them sit the four games out.

Well Coach O is an excellent hire for several reasons if it happens

1. He is an emotional, intense guy, LSU needs that from someone on the defensive staff.
2. He was the two time recruiting coordinator of the year, (Rivals award)LSU isn't hurting in that department, he can only add to the momentum
3. He knows LA, love LA., HS coaches etc
4. He is considered a pretty good DL position coach regardless of how the Saints may or may not be playing... Coaches can not make sacks
5. He always wanted to play for LSU

It seems like a good fit

The Vol fans want him pretty badly...too

I don't know much about coach O's coaching prowess (his recruiting rep precedes him) but I can't imagine coach Payton taking a leap on a guy that didn't have a record of being a pretty good D-line coach.

In the NFL it seems you can coach them up to a point but talent and DC scheme and game plan make the most difference.

I'm trying to figure out why Orgeron would come here as a Dline coach. I heard he is making around $500K with the Saints. He'll have to take a pretty significant pay cut for the same job at LSU.

I know he wants to coach at LSU, but is he willing to take a 50% pay cut?

BP - you are saying Chavis - what you think about this: the latest as of this AM from the insider on tigerlair

details of ironing out the contract and the finals for Walker. He got the contract, wording was a little off and corrections have been requested and now it's back at LSU. We shall see if we can fix the wording that fits both parties.
If that falls through, which nobody thinks it will, Chavis and Edwards seem to be the front guys. Although it is being reported Koenning has not signed his contract but I think that ship has sailed.

saints have drafted terrible on the defensive side of the ball. With the saints it's not a problem of scheme or coaching but talent

That was also reported on a local talk show yesterday afternoon. Also said Orgeron was coming. Speculation is Orgeron would be willing to take a pay cut if he would be given strong consideration for the DC job when Walker gets a HC gig in a couple of years.

Lots of speculation going on.

this has been thought about and it's a terrible argument. Short term greatness is better than long term mediocrity EVERY TIME.

Reported by who? Is this a 'Mike from Plaquemine' "report" or did it have any substance to it?

Its not risking the program at all, if the coordinators you hire get hired away was head coaches. Since most assistant coaches want to be head coaches, why wouldn't they want to go to a team where the last 2 DC's got head coaching jobs (assuming Walker comes and is 1 and done.)
