when a d.c. has very good players, his defense is very good. No matter the style.

If Chavis comes aboard we for sure need Coach O at Dline.
If Chavis and some of his staff come on board yes its an improvement over Malleveto but I think LSU can do better than 40th ranked defenses every other year.

Looks to have a solid defense about every third year

You can have Bill Belichick as your DC and if you don't have the horses, you're not going to rank highly. The coach can't make the tackles. That's why a coach's stat resume' isn't always the best, and is never the only, gauge of his talent.
Yeah, but the only problem with that statement is that since 2002 Tenn has had 23 defensive players (39 total) drafted by the NFL, while LSU has had 18 (39 total).
Over the last five years Chavis's defenses have finished with an average national ranking of 35th. This year we are ranked 36th and everyone wants to tar and feather Mallory and Peveto.

So...Tenn couldnt get top players? They have many in the NFL.... I would say the talent they get is very comparable to LSU.
The talent differential between UCLA and LSU is much greater than TENN and LSU.

No, not really. Most people on here realized that changes were coming and knew they would have to wait for Miles to make the decision. You were just one of the dumbshits running his mouth about how nothing would be done. Now, you have to back peddle because you obviously are wrong. All of a sudden you can no longer wait until a new coach is hired. According to you no changes were coming, you haven't had to wait that long. You just heard this week that Peveto and Mallory were getting other jobs. You couln't stand to wait three days.

I think right now the main choice may be Chavis for DC, and look for Coach O possibly Asst. Head Coach, D-Line, and head up recruiting.

I am perfectly fine with that because that means his Ds have been very impressive

quote:Outed myself? First of all, throughout this whole drawn-out drama, I never got on any potential DC's bandwagon. I posted early on a general profile of the type of DC I'd like to see at LSU. Never said "Oooh! Oooh! Coach _____ (insert name) is the one!" like a lot of DC bandwagoneers did. I just doubted Les was going to find anybody worthwhile this year by procrastinating like it seemed to me he did last year when Malveto came to be.
You know you just outed yourself right?
Actually he still has made no official announcements for whatever reason, so for all anybody here knows the non-vacant position of DC at LSU is not filled. Now I agree it is starting to look like this will not be the case in the end. But who? Anybody's guess, and lots here are guessing. Speculating. Wondering. No concrete facts, so this is just a "DC of the Day Derby" right now.
quote:What? And you're brilliant? Calling names is sure a brilliant way to refute anything somebody you don't agree with has to say.
You were just one of the dumbshits...

I would be fine with either Walker or Chavis because either will do great here. One advantage to Chavis is he seems content to be a DC where Walker will always be a candidate for every head coaching vacancy. For continuity's sake, Chavis would be awesome. Now if his defenses don't turn out for whatever reason...

Well, if what everyone says is true, Chavis will bring the 35th ranked D here every year save for about once every three years we'll jump up to 6th or 7th.
I want the 1st through 3rd like we've had since 2002.

I think the big reason that Walker is not going to be the DC at UCLA or LSU for the 2009 season is that he's going to be the head coach at San Diego State. I think it's a mistake, but it's his to make, and he'll be well compensated in making it.

I don't think anything is a result of one thing but a multiple of things. One, Malveto didn't have as good of players on D as we had the last 3-5 years. We didn't have cb's as good as webster, daniels, jackson and zenon. We didn't have safties as good as steltz, daniels, and landry. We didn't have an interior lineman as good as dorsey, lavalais, or williams, And we didn't have a linebackers as good as highsmith and alexander that can cover.
I also think the lack of qb play hurt the defense.
With that said, i don't think malveto worked. I think with two guy's there was a lot of confusion. the players were thinking vs just playing and knowing what they are suppose to do.
The statement with n.f.l. players is nice. However, it would be interesting to break down when those players in what draft and look at the quality of defense that particular year.
Ut's troubles have come with the lack of interior linemen. When they have haynseworth, henderson, overstreet ect they were very strong. I think the same can be said when we have williams, dorsey, and lavalais.
people say we have all this talent. i think we have talent. however, not the elite talent at key positions we've had in the past. at least this particular year. Some guys may step up next year and all is well.
