When you have a list of candidates and they all say they don’t want to deal with the politics or play daddy ball you hire the only one you know will say yes. That ship sank faster than the Titanic. Entirely too many people around that program that think their opinion has to matter, when the only things that should matter are wins and losses.

Three straight years of having to hiring a new coach and getting turned down by anyone with any type of resume, no one wants to deal with the political bs that comes with this job.
I think the main issue is internal to the school.

The problem is everyone involved in the program. Lane is incompetent at making hires, and caves to the pressure of parents and the Rebel Club. If you think for a second they don’t have final say in this you are out of your mind. When Arledge took over for Shows he allowed so many people to have a say so in the workings of the program bc they were most likely filling his pockets on the side. Those people have gotten used to their voices mattering and have threatened to cut donations when an “outsider” has been even attempted to be hired. Everyone around that program needs to release the Shows days are gone, and that change is needed but I don’t see it happening. All that they’re left with is a huge stadium full of empty seats on Friday nights.

I would love to know who these parents are who think they can exert pressure or have some type of influence.

Do these parents not cycle out of high school football? Or are they all OU812?

I heard one of the assistant principals has a kid coming up from one of the middle schools who is a quarterback. This assistant put pressure on Lane to not hire Breen because Breen would bring his son, who is also a quarterback with him and go back to the option offense.
If this is the case, the program derserves what it gets.

Pretty sure Breen has said publicly he turned it down, so I doubt that’s how that went down.
His son is also a junior or senior I believe so not sure that would’ve been much of an issue unless the other kid is an insane freshman. His son also didn’t start at QB at his current spot if that means anything.

Well, I'm not gonna put any more faith in my "source".

Probably not too far off as to why the job wasn’t appealing to most of the candidates atleast conceptually, and usually those kind of rumors start at a base level of truth that gets turned into something completely different after a few rounds of playing telephone with the story.
Like that assistant may have pressured them to not hire breen, but they ultimately told said assistant to kick rocks before Breen declined

It’s Monroe, they don’t have LSU and the Saints to watch like we do

quote:lol they can absolutely compete with south la, it’s new orleans (karr) that they can’t compete with, stop grouping us with you slow yokels. baton rouge shreveport and maybe monroe can compete with new orleans (karr)
West Monroe is like the Iowa or Wisconsin of La football. Throughout the roster they won’t have the athletes to compete with teams south of I-10 like Destrehan, Karr, etc.
