Most SEC Schools are either college towns or have rough areas around them.

Either is just the university and the town around it to provide for that populations or it’s that plus a shitty southern city.

Gainesville is a dump. They have better retirement situation though for all those millions these coaches make.

There are really beautiful areas around BR and there are trashy run-down areas - just like most of the larger southern cities.

And there’s nothing special about Gainesville either - it too has nice areas and run down areas

And how often do millionaire coaches spend in the ghetto parts of their city on their personal time? How often do any of us?

People judge BR as if the entire city is Plank Road and Choctaw. It’s been 25 years since I’ve driven through those areas.

Yes BR can improve but so many people act like the entire BR metro area is Mogadishu.

The head coach of LSU will never have to deal with the undesirable parts of the City, that's just how it is

There are a FEW AREAS of BR that are nice. The rest are shitholes. The shitholes are present because the people living there are trash and don't give a frick.

Pretty sure hes not living in north BR. Plenty of nice parts of town. Every city has shithole areas, especially in the south.

Find me a major city that doesn't have its problems. Not saying it doesn't have its problems, but so do places like Austin and Nashville that have been growing like crazy in recent years.

What a comparison

Interesting. I said something about Baton Rouge and had a poster weigh in and explain all the great schools, the great communities, high dollar neighborhoods, etc... the virtual paradise that Baton Rouge apparently is.

Plenty of places outside of baton rouge that are very nice. Pay me $15 million a year I'll drive 2 hours every morning to work

Yeah, not getting murdered would be an attractive option for moving to BR.

Then if you take highland from downtown to campus, that’s a shitshow.

Why would you do that? Aside from game day when you go where the traffic flow is set up. And in th context of this thread, why would a prospective coach/family ever be driven through known less desirable parts of town (aside from airport drive which can’t be avoided)?

how much blame should be put on city officials?

You think that city officials have any reason or desire to clean up da clucha? Hell…that’s their base. It’s why we have St. George.

It baffles me that they didn’t have a helicopter for the Kiffins so they could fly over the distressed neighborhood that is everything between Ryan and campus at an altitude too high for them to really see anything en route.

I don’t know about his family, but the HC will basically live at the facility and be isolated from everything else, so there’s that.

It has some nice neighborhoods but you still have to deal with all the negatives, and if you have kids those problems are just increased.

The cost of living with the high sales tax, insurance, state income tax and general don’t get shite for your tax money, makes it pretty untenable

It’s beyond city officials. It’s a city and has all the problems of any city. I love it here, but it has its challenges. I don’t think it affects a coach’s decision though.
