Is there a possibility that Bama moves to the SEC East?

I believe it has been stated that Auburn is likely heading to the SEC East and school officials have no problem with it

anything is a possibility
no reason to speculate about it too much till the 14 team is announced

tough call. then someone is losing a rivalry. either Aub with UGA or Ala with Tenn.

Why would Auburn moving to the east mean that they would possible have to stop playing UGA who is in the east? Either Bama picks between Auburn and Tenn or the SEC changes the way scheduling is done and they have 2 non-rotation teams from the East on their schedule.

He is saying that if Alabama moves to the East AU would no doubt choose to keep playing BAMA instead of UGA. because right now there is only one permanent cross-division rivalry played every year

I'll be honest, given the history and intensity of the three big rivalry games (Auburn/Bama, Auburn/UGA and Bama/Tenn) I don't see how the SEC will be able to say one of them has to end.
I also have a feeling that the administrations of the four schools would almost have had to have gotten some type of confirmation that the games would continue on an annual basis...if all four had said no to expansion it would have been 8-4 and there would have been no expansion.

If Big 10 is going to 9 game schedule with 12 teams SEC will definitely end up with a 9 game schedule in the future as well
Pac 12 already has a 9 game schedule too
Bigger conferences means less non conference opponents out there to schedule

So going from 105+ potential non conference opponents to (105+) - (1 or 2) is the reason for 9 game conference schedules?

Bama needs to go to the g'damn NFL

Alabama will not move if they don't want to. The only casualty would be the Third Saturday in October. In Tennessee's perspective, they trade a rival that they've had forever for a rival that they had forever, but got taken away with the expansion.
The UGA - Auburn game might have been the tougher game to give up (Oldest Rivalry in the South) from a tradition standpoint.

No, we trade our biggest rival for one we've played only a few more times than Florida.

We need 9 games now, but we also need guaranteed night games. Bulk of SEC games should be 2:30, 6/7. Vandy, Ole Miss and aTm can have that 11 o'clock shite if they want it.

What are all the games that the respective schools want to keep? So far I've heard Bama/Tennessee and Auburn/Georgia.
If another school joins the West then I would think it would make sense to push Bama and Auburn to the East to maintain those games, and simply slide Kentucky or Vandy to the West.

9-game schedules are for sure happening.

quote:What would that be? You can't be talking about Auburm. AU/UT was never that big of a rivalry. What will come back from an AU standpoint (if AU goes east) will be playing Florida on an annual basis. AU and Florida have a good deal of history, which is why they were our second perm oppenent when the conference first went with 2 perm and 1 rotating cross divisional games.

I think for sake of preserving rivalries (if team 14 is not an eastern team) the best thing to do is move AU and Bama east and then Kentucky or Vandy west. However, that really screws up the competitive balance - the east becomes murderer's row when UGA and Tenn get back to traditional levels and the west becomes LSU's own little playground.

Good post. The best solution I have seen is to play the unbalanced schedule until the Sec obtains geographical matchs for the current divisions. This kind of screws the West division for a few years but long term provides the best ability to sustain all rivalries.

Why the frick can't the 14th team simply join the SEC East??? Why the hell do so many people seem hellbent on shuffling teams to the other division when all the frick you have to do is add a team to the SEC East and be done with it??
It almost seems as though some people want to see unnecessary chaos when there doesn't have to be any.

Well lately the West has been murderer's row and the East has been Florida's own little playground, what's your point?
Besides A&M and Arkansas are way better than either Georgia or Tenn at this point in time, the 14th team could be a competitive west division team, and while we are going with the argument that UGA and Tenn can get back up to traditional levels so could Ole Miss, and Miss State seems to be getting better.
In regards to the OP's question, I only see two ways that Bama moves to the East.
1, SEC goes to 16 with 3 more West teams added thus allowing Bama and Auburn to move to the East, or
2. With addition of a 14th Team, the SEC is able to redraw the divisions to allow a competitive East and West, or however the SEC would be divided (Something it doesn't have now).
