Texas and Oklahoma: Path to the national championship

A year or so ago I remember reading quotes from either people in the administration of both schools or members of the coaching staff of both schools that basically stated they preferred the Big 12 to be smaller and without a conference championship game because it made the path to the national championship game easier. Don't ask for links because I don't have any....I might be misremembering what I read but I don't think I am.
Anyway, my question is this: Does anyone else think that kind of thinking will backfire on them? As it stands, I can think of one example where its 100% fact that the SEC Championship game pushed a team into the BCS NCG (2006 Florida) and others where it certainly helped greatly (2003 LSU, 2007 LSU).
Not having a championship game will turn the national perception of the Big 12 to one of a pussy league (I believe that's already started), and I really don't think they'll get the benefit of the doubt in the minds of the voters if its ever a close call.
What do you guys think? Is abandoning the championship game, especially in a time when 2 other major conference adopted it (Pac-12 and Big Ten), going to ultimately harm the Big 12, and thus Texas and Oklahoma?

IDK about last year, but OU is on the record now as saying they prefer to go back to 12.
I could hurt if the Big 12 winner has the same # of losses as the winner of SEC/B1G/PAC 12 CG

The SEC championship game has helped SEC teams get into the title game (LSU in 2003, Florida in 2006, LSU in 2007).
I think strength of schedule is a huge factor and will bite teams in the butt that don't have tough schedules.

I remember in 2007 that LSU's last five games were all against teams with a BCS ranking of #8 or better. That counts Georgia twice.

Something isn't right. We didn't even play Georgia in 2007.
Do you mean 2003?

Even then, we didn't play UGA twice in the last five games that year

Didn't happen either year.

07 SECCG was LSU/Tenn if my memory is worth a damn. And didn't LSU play a backup QB that game?

I believe the verbiage was "a clearer path to the national championship". But yes, it appears as though TU is either being a vagina or just greedy here (the other 8 schools want to go back to 12 teams).

But, I guess my question is, is it really going to be a clearer path? Or is the conference going to be regarded as the Big East-lite and not get respect, which will ultimate hurt the chances of Texas or Oklahoma to make the BCS NCG???

Big East lite
Oklahoma and Texas are 2 of the most storied programs in College Football history. They were in the BCS CG in 08 and 09 respectively. No one in the Big East is remotely close to that. But even still, LU and WVU had shots at the BCSCG recently, both would have made it if they were undefeated.
Could it bite them, especially now that 4 other AQ conferences have a CCG? Yes.

IMO, it hurts UTx more than OU. OU has always scheduled tough non conference opponents. UT rarely, if ever, does this.

My memory is apparently shot.
