Ecuador should qualify.. interesting to see Australia may likely have to have a play-in game to the intercontinental playoffs for a shot.

Uruguay have shot up from the depths and will likely qualify. Pulling for Peru to make it. Of course, Peru's next match is in Uruguay.
But then they play one of the bottom feeders last in Paraguay.

What a grind CONMEBOL must be.
I understand that 4 out of their 10 teams get to the WC with a 5 possible.
I also understand that giving 40-50% of the federation a WC spot is in recognition of how deep that group of countries is.
But damn. Looking at the standings now the bottom 3 are the 3 poorest countries on the continent and the rest are in the top 25 of FIFA rankings save for Ecuador. Meanwhile Asia has 1 ranked in the top 25 while England gets to qualify by kicking the shite out of the Soviet bloc and micro-countries.
Just the nature of the beast I guess.

With the 2026 World Cup expansion, 6 out of 10 teams in CONMEBOL will qualify. So basically, Bolivia, Colombia, Venezuela, and Peru will be those teams vying for that last spot I'd imagine.
The next CONCACAF Hex will also be interesting with seemingly Canada, USA and Mexico all automatically qualifying for 2026 (though not technically confirmed right now). Only 6 teams from CONCACAF will be in the tourney and 3 are already basically in... but this means the Hex will have some teams competing that generally just can't ever qualify for it, so that'll be neat.
You still have to figure Costa Rica, Panama, and probably Honduras or Jamaica make it in no matter the competition in that qualifying group.

I wonder if FIFA will still have all 3 nations play in the qualifiers like they did with Qatar this cycle.

I think that's a really dumb idea. Of course, we'll need to have a slew of friendlies to stay fresh, but I think it's a nice opportunity for some CONCACAF minnows to get a shot at World Cup qualifying.

They are counting as friendlies for Qatar which is good so they have games to play against their normal competition

We better get in Copa America for that cycle just to give us something competitive besides the Gold Cup and Nations League.

I wish there was a different way qualification took place, as I hate the Confederations and how they are set up.
To me splitting the soccer world into two groups based around a combination of size and monies spent on the sport being the delineation. Have two World Cups (with the larger one paying the cost for the smaller nations).
Take out the El Salvadors, Luxembourgs, Micronesias, Mongolias , etc of the world and let the larger countries use a Nations League set-up to decide the finals.
My body is ready for the slew of DVs.

So Canada gets fricked?
They haven't spent much of any money on soccer.

I was talking to my Colombian friend today for a while about this disastrous cycle for them. They should be qualifying from the region based on talent but their federation is corrupt and also does a shitty job choosing managers. That region is a fricking grind for sure. It doesn't help that Zapata and Muriel don't play up to the standards they do for their club.
He is jealous of the region we qualify from

I'm sure there are equitable ways of deciding which side a country falls into and maybe its really about money spent on sports overall or some other aspect.
I think it serves two purposes. First, we can get away from playing countries that have no chance of playing in the WC (but rule over the Confederations because of voting bloc). Secondly, stops us from having to play teams whose highlight of the season is the shithousery they can give us during a game.

People really need to stop saying socialism based on how private industries and companies decide to do business.
