I think it's MJ, but good arguments for Shaq, Lebron, Wilt, etc.

MJ or Kobe

Or Wilt. Never saw Wilt play, but he might be most correct answer.

“Best prime” is the best way to rank players. Pick their best 5 years and see who was the best.

Jordan is 1. Bron is 2.

Wilt best numbers. Lebron best longevity. MJ winningest.

Hard to judge Wilt because during his huge seasons the lane was half the size it is now.

By NBA MVPS in short time spans (these guys won more than this):
Bill Russell - 1961, 1962, 1963, 1965
Wilt - 1966, 67, 68
Kareem - 1971, 72, 74, 76, 77
Moses - 1979, 82, 83
Bird - 1984, 85, 86
Magic - 1987, 88, 90
Jordan - 88, 91, 92
Lebron - 2009, 10, 12, 13

Kareem's run in the 70s is the winner for me.

Kareem is #1, #2, and #4 all-time in single season WS/48. Statistically, nobody had a better prime than him. However, he did play in a weaker league due to expansion and the ABA.

That's gotta be Bill Russell. 11 for 13 with 8 straight.

the nba was 1/3 the size then and no salary cap or any type of restrictions. if russell is the best bc of championships, the robert horry is better than mj.

One of my favorite YouTube channels/books/podcast Thinking Basketball did a YouTube series on the greatest peaks of all time. He did individual videos on the 15 greatest peaks of all time which is basically the top players of all time. He covers MJ, LBJ, Steph, Bird, Kareem, Hakeem, and many of the other greats. Have fun with this rabbit hole.

Going to throw out a name that some may disagree on. But for me, Tracy McGrady had one hell of an NBA prime.

We know injuries did him in but he was unguardable. Just ask Kobe.

Massively underrated. Was the best player in the league during that 5 year stretch. That is a league with Dr. J, Kareem, and both young Bird and Magic. Malone won 3 MVPS, 4 all NBAs and then won the title in 83, along with being Finals MVP. Of course the league exploded right after that. So he is forgotten..
