Just finished “in the woods” Her debut novel. Loved her writing style but hated the ending like it seems most do. Anyone read the rest of her Dublin murder squad books and have any opinions on if they’re worth the read or not?

I thought the Likeness was even better. For whatever reason, I always get bogged down in Faithful Place. My wife agrees it was the least impressive book. I think she’s now read everything French has written.
Her style is great. She can really transport you to whatever era or area of Dublin she wants you to be in.

I’m about 1/3 of the way into the likeness and love it so far. Such an interesting idea, big fan of the Cassie character she’s created, and like the setting so far

Faithful Place
Thats the only one Ive yet to read... I couldn't really get into or finish The Secret Place
There are times in all her books where I feel they tend to drag a bit, but for the most part I like them..

I think French is a great writer but as others have said the stories are all at a slow simmer. She has great insight into human psychology and her characters are deeply fleshed out. I've read the first five but just can't seem to motivate myself to get back into her work right now.

I've listened to everything she has written and liked them all. They are a bit slow in places but I think that's a feature and not a bug. I also like how if you do the audiobook they are all narrated by a different person since they are told from a different character.

I've read all of her books. In The Woods is my favorite. The Likeness, Faithful Place, Broken Harbor, and The Secret Place are all superb. The Trespasser and The Searcher are competent. The Wytch Elm was insufferable.
