Cop sits in NOPD SUV while a local does donuts around him. Of course if he gave chase he'd probably be put on desk duty and disciplined if the chase exceeded 35 mph and someone was hurt.

WWL-TV

A recently retired sergeant confirmed to me that officers close to retirement are counting the days and don't take any chances doing something that could get them disciplined. Police brass spend hours reviewing body cam video for possible consent decree violations. It's going to get worse before it gets better, as retirements and departures continue to outnumber new officers by more than 2 to 1.

Not one bit. He's also selling his house in Orleans parish and moving to Jefferson (if he can find something he can afford).

This isn’t a new deal with NOPD.

I have a relative who is ex-NOPD and retired before Katrina.

We used to joke that we kept checking for him whenever there was a NOPD corruption bust. His response was “You can’t get busted if you never actually do anything.” And he didn’t mean “anything illegal” either.

Meanwhile, teenagers know they can carjack and break into cars in broad daylight on crowded streets with no repercussions, as long as nobody is killed.

NOPD had some historically bad constitutional violations that rightfully led to federal involvement. Infuriatingly though we seem to have to choose between letting that go on or letting criminals do whatever.

These guys need to do their jobs or resign. Sitting around and taking my tax dollars while not enforcing the law isn't an honorable response to the situation. If they are willing to do whatever it takes just to keep their job then they would be willing to just Follow Orders when the government decides to start violating citizens rights. And that isn't acceptable either.

The Mayor is fricked up but the officers bear some blame here too.

The problem could be easily solved, but the powers that be 100% want this anarchy and, quite frankly, so do their constituents.

NOLA appears to be the example of what happens when something is destroyed from without vs within.

Flooding destroyed the city from without and it was rebuilt.

This is destroying the city from within and it is likely to kill everything not the French Quarter or shipping in the long term.

And if they kill someone, even if they get caught, they’ll just get out with a slap on the wrist.

New Orleans is a bowl of turds that needs to be flushed

They’re “investigating” the officer involved knowing damn well there’s absolutely nothing he can do.

The atvs that went into Belle Chasse a few weeks ago thought the cops couldn’t chase them. They were wrong.
