Just going to let you know that I talked with a guy that works with Daktronics and handles the LSU account. He said that there will be a new scoreboard for the 2009 season. He said that Daktronics is also handling the baseball, softball, and track scoring systems. The guy said that he loves dealing with LSU because he tells them the amount, they ask the down payment and write him a check. He said there are no questions asked and the person that he deals with is an elder booster. Hope this answers any questions

Well Im sure he does love dealing with the school. He probably makes a shite ton of comission just off of LSU.
Maybe we need some new people in purchasing, there is a little thing called shopping around and getting quotes.
Does LSU fall under the whole government contract thing, where they have to accept bids for a certain amount of time?

How many new scoreboards are we getting? Two I hope...

It's just one, in the North EZ. The South EZ will have an expansion within the next ten years or so.

I don't know, it was a quick discussion at a formal setting, so there was not too much time to ask questions. I was just glad to hear something definite.

I'm pretty sure, even though the athletic department is part of a state school, its funding comes from a private organization: TAF

The scoreboard will be funded by TAF. It will be in the North EZ and all the "LSU insiders" say it will the best in the biz.

So are we getting a big screen for instant replays to?

Yes. Supposedly one of the biggest in the country and only slightly smaller than Arky and Texas'.

I hope they have it like Auburns in the sense that they show all of the scores of other games on the side of the big screen throughout the entire game... I hate those scrolling screens that are just below the upper decks that show the scores like once per quarter and mostly show crappy community federal ads...

I still think they need something that will allow it to lay flat in cast of emergencies. Something with that kind of surface area would get destroyed by a major storm like Gustav.

Hate to burst your bubble there, Sparky, but Gustav wasn't a "major storm."
Gustav was a good storm; a decent storm. It could have very easily been handled, but it waltzed on over from Florida and exposed Baton Rouge and exposed a poor scheme and lack of preparation on LSU's part...oh, wait...

Not sure how 60+ mph sustained winds are considered to have "exposed" a city, or how a city is supposed to "prepare" for that in any real way, but ok, whatever you say chief.
