I have the first pick in my dynasty league’s rookie draft (love that draft lottery!)…

What am I most hoping for on draft night? What’s the single best fit that a RB or WR could find to maximize their fantasy potential? Am I all in on hoping for Breece Hall to Buffalo at this point? Or am I more hoping that one of the stud WRs falls to GB at 22? Any other potential perfect fits I should be looking for at the top of our rookie draft?

I think you have to go Hall no matter what. If he truly is the best RB talent, he will shine no matter where he goes. Think of the people that drafted CEH ahead of J Taylor because of the team he went to.

I agree that Hall will be the most likely 1st pick regardless of where he lands. The only thing that would make me think twice is if KC or GB makes a huge trade to move up and take Garrett Wilson.

I guess it also depends on if your team needs a RB or WR more.

Agreed - I don't love any of the landing spots for the WRs so far.

Right now, I'd rank it:

London (just b/c I think he'll get RZ TDs)
Burks
Pickett
Olave
Wilson
Williams
Dotson

So I’m going to ask the classic trap of the over thinker….

Is there any reason at all to consider taking Cook with the better offense in the number 1 slot, or do I just stick with best player on a shite offense and go with Breece Hall?

Not sure what’s funny about that, seems to be a perfectly legitimate question.

There is absolutely zero reason to take Cook at 1.01 even if you prefer him over Hall

You might as well trade back and give someone an early Christmas present

This mock pretty much shows the consensus of what I think and have been seeing online. The WRs can be shuffled of course, but Cook has zero business being talked about as a potential 1.01, let alone top 2 back

1.01 - Breece Hall
1.02 - Kenneth Walker
1.03 - Drake London
1.04 - Trey Burks
1.05 - Jameson Williams
1.06 - Garret Wilson
1.07 - Chris Olave
1.08 - Kenny Pickett
1.09 - Christian Watson
1.10 - Jahan Dotson
1.11 - James Cook
1.12 - Skyy Moore

2.01 - George Pickens
2.02 - John Metchie
2.03 - David Bell
2.04 - Wan’Dale Robinson
2.05 - Rachaad White
2.06 - Alec Pierce
2.07 - Matt Corral
2.08 - Desmond Ridder
2.09 - Trey McBride
2.10 - Malik Willis
2.11 - Jalen Tolbert
2.12 - Brian Robinson

Yea, I’m going to take Hall. That was as much of a frustration question as anything else haha. Just too many guaranteed touches in NY and too much talent not to, especially since the Bills backfield won’t necessarily break in cook’s favor.

But I am going to make my way too early prediction for next season… I think there is a very solid chance that Cook is going to have a Kamara type of rookie season and win rookie player of the year. If he’s still available in the back half of the first round, I might try to trade up and get both of them

Don’t get me wrong. I like the Cook situation a lot. But the right move is to trade back if you want him.

He’s going late 1st in most drafts that I see

Try to trade back and get Cook plus another 1st if you’re that set on Cook. Hall isn’t a Cant miss talent, but he’s getting enough value that people would pay two mid to late round 1sts for him

I didn’t really get the people really wanting him in Buffalo where his TD upside would always be capped with Allen

NY’s offense has potential if Wilson progresses

Hall and Cook both have second round draft capital invested in them. If Cook becomes the feature back in Buffalo, his ceiling is probably higher. But the risk of him being part of a 3 man RBBC is high too.

Hall, Walker, and Cook are all similar talents. I’m not sure I agree with the logic that Cook doesn’t belong in the discussion with the other two. It’s not like he was drafted in the sixth round.

I’ve made the mistake way too many times of not trusting myself because of what the “experts” think. I’d probably still go Hall but I certainly think there is a considerable chance Cook has a better rookie season and career.
