Pretty good considering he’s about a foot taller than Jose and Graham. Def need some size at guard.

I like Mathurin a lot. I have AJ Griffin and Keegan Murray ahead of him though.

He’s kind of in a group with Johnny Davis, Jeremy Sochan, Dyson Daniels, and Ochai Agbaji.

If we stay at 8 and get mathurin its a win IMO, he adds shooting, athleticism, size, defense, ball handling

I hope we land a top 4-5 pick, I know it is only like a 20% chance of happening but that skinny center and a couple of F's hit 3's at a clip that I would be OK with trying out.

I think the defense is probably the one thing that doesn’t separate him from the pack I mentioned above.

It seems like the tiers at this point are:

Tier1:
Smith
Paolo
Chet

Tier2:
Ivey
Sharpe

And so on, if he was more consistent defensively he’s probably in that tier 2 group.

What’s the case for Griffin? I liked the idea of him at first but it seems like people have lied about his defensive ability. He’s pretty much just a spot up shooter at this point, considering he was actually one of Duke’s worst defenders this year according to the majority of draft scouts’ opinions on him

I can’t speak for the rest of Dukes defenders but I really like him defensively. I don’t think he’s a great defender right now, but he has shown flashes and has all the tools to be a great defender, but with that said I don’t think he’s a bad defender or a liability either.

And possibly more than anything the reason I would buy on him defensively is because of his improvement areas and what he already has. I think he plays hard on that end, which is the biggest thing, but he’s a bit flat footed and handsy on that end and if you can get him on his toes a bit more rather than the balls of his feet that helps his hands. He’s already a serviceable defender and the things that are coachable really push him over the top.

Then there are the things that aren’t coachable. 6,6”, 7 ft wingspan, strong. He will be able to guard multiple positions, highly switchable, etc etc.

He disappears in games, I know he was on a stacked team, but I don’t care for that reasoning, got to have a little more dog in him. His injury history is super concerning, hoping he all of sudden stays healthy in the pros seems like a bad bet.

Reminds me of Harry Giles, yes at one point he was a great prospect but injuries robbed him of too much. His wide shooting base bugs me as well, he can shoot it but I really don’t like how he moves on either side of the ball.

This is far and away the most concerning part of him as a prospect and it really isn’t close.

I don’t really agree with this. He’s too upright, flat footed, and his base is too far apart.

I still wouldn’t say he has cement in his shoes, but because of the reasons I mentioned above his slides are incredibly long which kind of makes him look slow, when he’s really not.

For the Pels?
1. Chet 2. Jabari 3. Murray 4. Mathurin

Defense, shooting, length, off ball scoring.

Paolo will be a nice player but he's a black hold on defense and unreliable from 3.

Iveys shooting and defense are massive question marks, but he has star potential.

Sharpe is such an absolute massive question mark i'd rather go for the "lower ceiling, higher floor" player in Mathurin.

Griffin is a sound defender. Strong, great base, good technique. Fights through screens really well. Ron Artest, Jimmy Butler, Marcus smart. You don’t have to be a freak to make an impact defensively

Griffin is an OKAY defender at best. He's probably the most overhyped player in the class.

I don't see him as a lottery pick.

Having Mathurin at 4 but AJ Griffin outside of the lottery is weird. They do a lot of the same things well.

Griffin has a great head on his shoulders. He is going to be a really good pro.
