The Rio Frio at the moment

Im headed to Concan, TX next week. We were hoping to spend our days in the cool waters of the Frio but it seems this drought has the river nearly dry.
Anyone in the area have any good spots to hit up when there is no water flowing? Ill be with a ton of kids and they were really looking forward to tubing and playing in the river. Need something to keep them cool

All joking aside - I think you're SOL.
I know most all of the swimming holes in Central Texas have been closed and the rivers aren't flowing because there's been no rain.
A pool is your best option right now.

you think that would affect Jacob's Well? The place we are staying has a pool, luckily, but Id like to find at least something else for them to see

We visited Blanco State Park 2 weeks ago and the Blanco River is still high enough and flowing.Catch a bite to eat at Josie's Kitchen. Great spot.
The other spot is Blue Hole Park in Wimberly, but they require reservations so it's unlikely you'll be able to get in on a short notice. We went mid June and it was great.

thanks everyone for the recommendations. it looks like there's still swimmable water in Garner state park. Ill have to check out the others.

The Comal in New Braunfels is almost always floatable.
But Hill Country streams? Not this year. I'd suggest Lake Buchanan or Inks Lake and maybe rent a pontoon. Also, lots of pools (like you mentioned Jacob's Well) are subject to closure at any time due to contaminated water because of toxic algae blooms. Hamilton pool is currently open by reservation only, but it often closes when it's hot.
For this year? I'd probably float the Comal and rent a boat on Canyon Lake.

Well I’m here and can report that the water is definitely low. But there is plenty of swimmable water in the Frio. It’s actually worked out pretty well with the little ones. Don’t have to worry about them too much in the shallow water near our condo. Garner was pretty packed and didn’t seem affected.

Great! Glad you're having a good time! It is beautiful out there. Go to the Garner Dance for a bit, depending on your kid's ages. It's an iconic, old time, Texas Hill Country thing.
