Has anybody here done it? Any tips on time, route, cost, or anything else that stood out from your experience?

We plan on doing it in the summer of ‘24 so our youngest meets the age requirement. I’m interested as well.

I don’t think it’s something you do on your own. Need to go with a tour group. Some don’t make it due to altitude sickness.

My son just got back about a month ago. Here is a link to his YouTube video that he made.

Lemosho 6 day route to Mt. Kilmanjaro

He had a blast. He is 30 years old, an LSU grad and went with 5 other friends. Let me know if you want to talk or email with him and he can tell you how he did it. Very proud of him. It was a bucket list item for him.

My dad did it a few years ago when he was 65. He used Climb Kili. Took 5 days to go up and 2 days down. He said it was amazing

It was about $5k per person including flights

That's awesome. Hopefully his knee was okay.

Thanks for posting, I had to stop watching after like 5 min. because I felt like it was going to spoil it for me if I saw everything.

I'm in the very initial stages of seeing if it's feasible at this time in my life (it's my #1 bucket list item) but I have three young children so timing isn't great. If I progress I may reach out to you/your son...

Thanks again! Congrats to your son

Randy or anyone else… anyone make the trek? I am just starting planning. Thinking about this summer or fall.

Mt Kilimanjaro expedition

Heh, seriously - it's just below the equator, but there are wet and dry months and dry is a lot better. December to March and June to October. That said I was around it in November a couple of years ago and met a couple of women who'd just done it on the spur of the moment which is borderline crazy. They were pretty fit, hired a competent guide, and got up (through snow at times and mostly crappy views). I've got in laws who did it in their 60's and did it with no problems with a lot of preparation, they were in great shape for 60's. 19,341 feet of elevation is nothing to sneer at. You'd better be in damn good shape and take your time. But with that and a good guide I think it's very doable.

I haven't, I had gotten into the early stages of the planning process and pivoted toward taking my family to Europe next summer and doing Running of the Bulls (my #2 bucket list item). This will probably push Kilimanjaro to 2025 or so.

Update this when you make your plans and all, very interested to hear how it goes. Good luck!

Will do. Starting to just do treadmill work at as much of an incline as I can handle.

Have you decided what company you are going to use?

I looked at Climb Kili. Reviews seem solid and they are half the price of some others. I want to buy business over because I feel like I would be wrecked for 36 hours in coach. This helps bring total cost in line. You find any you loved?

I think I had pretty much settled on Climb Kili as well.
