Would just be me and my wife. Would mostly be hanging out at the beach and some sightseeing. I have done zero research yet and would like to hear the board’s recommendations for favorite places. Thanks!

It's not a beach but the Arenal/La Fortuna area is really nice. Some good resorts and you can explore volcano, waterfalls and hot springs.

Monteverde is a small town out of the way that is nestled among some high rainforests. Great for hiking, wildlife and ziplining.

For a nice beach look into the Montezuma and Manual Antonio areas.

Did the same trip with my wife many years ago. 2 weeks wasn't long enough.

Don't go cheap on your car rental. Pit-putting up a mountain road in a tin can with no suspension while the Range Rovers blow by you will not impress your wife.

If you only want to hang out on a pretty beach, I've recommend places other than Costa Rica. I do recommend doing some fun things in La Fortuna/Arenal or Monteverde and then going to one of the beach areas. There's so much in those 2 areas that is unique and shouldn't be missed if you travel to the country.

I know many people have done the all inclusives in the Guanacaste area, but I don't feel this is really the country for an AI.
