Played Gus today before this weekends Houston Amateur Championships the next two weekends. I wanted to see how the set up would be. The course is in fantastic condition. However, I was surprised to see that the greens were heavily sanded recently. Talked to the staff and they guaranteed that come Friday they will be perfect. Aside from the sand they were fast and rolled true.

Awesome that they are having the tournament at Gus. Never played in it but had several friends that did.
Not the longest course but I love the layout and it's great that it is being maintained.
Where else can you stand on the tee box and tee off to Tejano music...

Yeah they can really get the greens going out there…hot sunny weather with rain the past 4 or 5 weeks has grass growing really well…should be a good test

The set-up for the tournament has been horrific in the past. They put every pin on a slope with the greens rolling a 12. They’re afraid of Gus getting torched. And with the length and setup, pace of play is horrific. It was a much better tournament at Memorial.

Years ago I played with Ron Schroder in the Oldsmobile Scramble.
We were 250 out on a par 5 that was 3/4 surrounded by water, he hit a 3 wood to 4 ft.
He won the City Amateur several times, guy could golf his ball. he would have made it on the Senior Tour if it wasn't for a bad car wreak that messed his wrist up.

I'd hit it by you 30 yards or more.

If I use my 5 iron off the tee, maybe

Did you win a ReMax LD Qualifier ?
I think not.
I have the documentation and 10 grand to back it up.

I bet I can hit it further than Jack Nicklaus too.
You have a colorized replay of that papaw?

I just want to see the replay
I'm out of black and white though, my dad watched enough gun smoke when I was a kid
