Favorite Sci/Fi or Fantasy Comedy author - Terry Pratchett or Douglas Adams

I have to go with Adams as my favorite, but I've read all of his Hitchiker stuff and the first Dirk Gently book. For Pratchett I've just started - I've read two of his Disc World books. I will say that Pratchett's Good Omens collaboration with Neil Gaiman was excellent.

Both authors are amazing, but Terry Pratchett would be my choice just because of the sheer quantity of his work that is excellent.
The best Pratchett books are equal to the hitchhikers guide books, and he has a bunch more of them.
And not sure if you started at the beginning with Pratchett, but the Rincewind books are probably the worst of his discworld book sequences.

Grant Naylor is up there for me. Red Dwarf the book (actually two books) is better than the show, in my opinion.

Adams was as good with prose (and maybe better than) as George Carlin was with the spoken language. That's the highest compliment I can pay.

For Pratchett, I've read The Light Fantastic which I think is his 2nd discworld book. The protagonist is indeed Rincewind. It reads a lot like a Douglas Adams book as far as satire/humor, but not as good in my opinion.
I'm just finishing Snuff which I think is one of Pratchett's later books. It's a pretty good read, but the humor/satire is very muted. Other than that I've read the first Long Earth book which is a Pratchett collaboration with Stephen Baxter. That one is almost straight sci fi/fantasy. It's was hard to detect Pratchett's contribution (for me, anyway). As I've said, the Good Omens collaboration with Gaiman was brilliant.
It could be that I'm just partial to Adams because I discovered his books young and have loved them for a long time. The only misfire in my opinion was Mostly Harmless, which I think was written when he was in a bad place personally.

Yeah, Snuff was one of his last books, I think he wrote that one right before or after he was diagnosed with dementia.
The city guards books would be the ones I would suggest starting with, but start at the beginning of the series in order, not the end like Snuff.
I'd suggest the book Small Gods for anyone looking to start Pratchett, it's a great one off book.

I'm kind of the same place as you. Douglas Adams still has to be my favorite, but I really liked the Pratchett Disc World books that I read (3 I think). Not really sure why I didn't read more, possibly forgot how to look up which should be next. But also I'm more into books with more meat on them these days. But more Pratchett does sound fun to add to the mix at times.
