The EU has reportedly set its sights on establishing a 5,000-man “rapid deployment” military force by 2025, a report has claimed.

In what appears to be the most concrete development in the EU’s desire to have its own military, lawmakers in Brussels are reportedly in the concrete planning stage for establishing a 5,000-man “rapid deployment” military intervention force, a report has claimed.
quote:
When Brexit leaders like Nigel Farage warned of the hard-Eurofederalist direction of the bloc they were dismissed as believing in “a dangerous fantasy”, yet Farage is being vindicated on the point — once again.
quote:
According to a report by the German newspaper Die Welt, an agreement on the creation of the force is expected to be reached as early as Tuesday, with it set to be granted competency for “evacuation” and “stabilisation” missions.
quote:
Josep Borrell, the EU’s Security Policy High Representative, has said that training for the establishment of such a force could kick off as early as “the second half of 2023”, with Germany seemingly eager to be the first country to lead the intervention force once it is created.
We know when Germany leads off with a military force, it’s great historically!
When they call you a conspiracy theorist for stating the slippery slope, ignore them.

Is the Ukraine funding getting this thing established?

40 quadrabillion fajillion. Since money doesn't mean a damn thing to anyone except the eventual victor of a new world order, at which time the losers will get to pay.

What exactly is the conspiracy theory here?

This is kind of like the annual warnings that my DL won't be accepted at airports b/c it's not a real ID.
They've been saying they're creating this force since I was in undergrad (early 00s).

Why does the EU need a separate army from NATO forces? What kind of boondoogle is this going to be if/when an “EU” force gets engaged against Russia and the Russians respond with a strike on Poland or Germany? US gonna mind our own business because the conflict is an EU operation? Or we gonna get dragged in because of NATO?

The EU has members who are not a part of NATO.

5000 soldiers? Don't worry about it. It's perfectly fine for them to organize this unit given there is a European Union.

When Farage stated that they wanted a military and a police force in 2015 as support for Brexit, they called him a conspiracy theorist and told him he was “living in a fantasy land”.
Now, Farage was correct the whole time. It only took 5-6 years.

Maybe so, but now they’re saying they have “concrete plans” and a date.

a. This is Breitbart citing a German news article. Does anyone have any idea what the article actually said? Breitbart is pretty famous for misquoting articles.
b. The EU has been saying they're going to form a military since I was in undergrad, 20 years ago. Farage wasn't onto some new, hidden policy and that policy always fails to maeterialize.

Cite me an actual source on this. Not Breitbart. In English, preferably.

Great! That means they don't need us to keep defending them, right?

The EU has planned for a military apparatus since it was created.

What does the European Union have to do with NATO defense committments?

This is besides the point. They still called him a liar because of it. The issue wasn’t about it being a groundbreaking discovery for Farage, but it was one of his Brexit reasons.

You’re free to read it and brief us.

The point ultimately being?
Ok, Farage supported Brexit because he didn't want the EU to have these operational groups. What now?
Is this 5,000 man group going to sweep across the steppe and take Moscow? What exactly is the concern from our (and post-Brexit UK's) point of view?

Never work as a real fighting force. Multi-national forces simply lack cohesion. At least one real horse has to pull the cart.

I'm not the one making the arguments based on Brietbart's (clearly objective) analysis of the article
